Daniel Monks began his career making short films, which screened at film festivals internationally and received several awards and honors. He was named Young Filmmaker of the Year at the 2014 WA Screen Awards.
In 2017, Monks wrote, produced and starred in the drama film Pulse, based on his own life. His performance earned him a 2018 AACTA Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role. That same year, he appeared in Malthouse Theatre's production of The Real and Imagined History of the Elephant Man, earning a 2018 Helpmann Award nomination for Best Male Actor in a Play.
Monks made his West End debut in 2019 as the lead in Teenage Dick at the Donmar Warehouse. He won Best Performer in a Play at the 2020 Stage Debut Awards for the role. He later played Konstantin in a contemporary production of The Seagull alongside Emilia Clarke.
In 2024, Monks was cast as Ser Manfred Dondarrion in the television series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which premiered in 2026. In 2025, he played Brian Irvine in the mystery thriller miniseries All Her Fault and made his Royal Shakespeare Company debut as Orsino in Twelfth Night. In 2026, he appeared as Jamie Lawson in the BBC One drama miniseries Waiting for the Out.
