BIO

Dan Norman Photography is a premier theater photographer, covering Theatre, Opera, Event, and Theatrical Press. Based in Saint Paul Minnesota.

I am a Minnesota native - I grew up in northern Minnesota and went to college at the University of Minnesota, Morris, where I earned my degree in theatrical scenic design. I continued following my passion for theatre, working backstage and in a scene shop, building my knowledge and understanding of the stage. I began taking photos from the wings, and eventually pursued production photography for theatres around the Twin Cities. I have been photographing shows for well over 15 years now working with dozens of companies, capturing photos for theatre, opera, and events. I love every minute of it!

Review: MAE WEST AND THE TRIAL OF SEX at Crane Theater
by Jared Fessler - Jun 10, 2025

At the Crane Theater, Walking Shadow Theatre Company isn’t just reviving history — it’s exhuming it, dusting it off, and tossing it unapologetically under the spotlight. Mae West and the Trial of Sex, a new play written by Artistic Director John Heimbuch and directed by Allison Vincent, dives headlong into the scandal, subversion, and censorship of 1920s Broadway — and finds the modern resonance humming just beneath the fringe.

Review: BEETLEJUICE at The Paramount Theatre
by Jay Irwin - Apr 3, 2024

Dear Readers, warning, I’m about to be a bit of a snob here. I know, big surprise. But I’m not the biggest fan of the musical, “Beetlejuice”, currently playing at the Paramount Theatre. I wasn’t a fan when I first heard the cast recording and now having seen it, I can’t say my opinion has changed all that much. A bit, but not much.
