The Sarasota Players will launch its 96th season with the city-premiere of The Wedding Singer, the high-energy musical comedy with music by Matthew Sklar, book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy, and lyrics by Beguelin, based on the New Line Cinema film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

Who doesn't appreciate the beloved film Singing in the Rain? Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor sang and danced their way into our hearts in this 1952 movie classic about the pandemonium that plagued the movie industry in the late 1920s when motion pictures morphed from silence to full sound. In the film, Monumental Pictures found themselves with a popular silent film star who possessed an awful speaking and singing voice and would not transition well in to the new world of movies with sound. What to do, what to do. If you have seen the film, you know how the winsome story evolves.

Coming up on July 7, The Players Centre for Performing Arts Summer Camps is proud to have our campers perform the exciting, Caribbean-flavored musical Once on This Island, Jr. The students have been working for four weeks to put on this fully produced show, encapsulating their camp experience which included learning about theatre etiquette, auditioning, teamwork, friendship and enhancing their skills in voice, acting and dance.
