Susan Mack has made it the theme of her evening, SUSAN MACK: YESTERDAYS, which opened yesterday at Birdland. And Ms. Mack is, indeed a singer worth remembering. She has a voice as full-bodied as honey, with impeccable pitch and delicious taste in music. She put together a program of classy, often rueful tunes about days gone by, both hers and ours. As she points out, the beauty of calling a show YESTERDAYS is that you can sing anything written before today.

The ASCAP Foundation Alan and Marilyn Bergman Lyric Award is a new program established by the award-winning songwriting team, Alan Bergman and his late wife, Marilyn. The legendary duo wrote lyrics for film, stage and television for more than five decades, which earned them multiple Emmys, Grammys and three Oscars.

Dorian Woodruff will trade in his Barry Manilow show for a Marilyn and Alan Bergman tribute.

According to deadline.com, Marilyn Bergman passed away at 1:15 this morning in her Los Angeles residence. Her husband and musical collaborator, Alan Bergman, and daughter, Julie Bergman, were at her bedside. At the age of 93, the award-winning lyricist and seventeen-time Oscar nominee died of non-Covid related respiratory problems.

The red carpet attendees at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theater included cast members Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, Josh Andrés Rivera, Rita Moreno (also executive Producer), director/producer Steven Spielberg, producer Kristie Macosko Krieger, producer Kevin McCollum and choreographer Justin Peck.

The Great American Songbook is an exhaustive, evolving canon of standards that includes work by the likes of Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin and Richard Rogers. Tony Bennett called the work, “the best popular music ever composed.” Music held in such high regard could have no finer ambassador than Michael Feinstein.
