Then don't miss the upcoming auditions for the 2018 Theatre in the Park (TTIP) OUTDOOR summer season on Saturday and Sunday Feb. 24 and 25. Auditions will take place for five musicals from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 24 and Noon to 4 p.m. on Feb. 25 at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8878 Metcalf, in Overland Park. The time has come for Olathe Civic Theatre Association to prepare for its second New Works Playwright Competition Finals! After receiving nearly double the number of entries from last year, the members of the NWPC committee have narrowed the pool to five finalists. Applicants submitted a ten-page teaser vetted by the committee and then ten semi-finalists were asked to send in full scripts. Now, OCTA will present the five teasers, from four original plays and one original musical, at this year's New Works Playwright Competition Finals in early March. (more...)

??????? KCRep announced today that Jamie Sanders, lead actor in KCRep's THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME now playing at Spencer Theatre on the UMKC campus, will visit the Children's Mercy Hospital Tourette Syndrome Center of Excellence located at 2401 Gillham tomorrow Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Jamie will tour the hospital, meet the staff at Adele Hall and have a meet-and-greet with parents of children with Tourette's syndrome at 3:30 pm. (more...)

The Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre is moving south this winter... three blocks south to their new home in the historic Warwick Theatre at the corner of Westport Road and Main Street. In their new space MET will finish their 13th season with productions of Nilo Cruz's Pulitzer prize winning drama Anna in the Tropics, and the spirited American musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown. The Warwick will also host the 2018 MET Gala 'Dream A Little Dream with Me(t)' on April 28, 2018. The slated production of Brecht's Caucasian Chalk Circle has been cancelled to facilitate the company's relocation. The current theatre at 3614 Main Street has suffered structural deterioration, and the venue is no longer suitable for producing theatre. (more...)

An MTH original production, the show is helmed by respected Kansas City Theater Artist Julie Shaw, who makes her MTH directorial debut with this production. National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $25 million in grants as part of the NEA's first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $25,000 to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. This award is the largest NEA grant awarded to the Kauffman Center in support of Future Stages Festival. The festival is a free community event that provides opportunities for future artists to take center stage at the Kauffman Center. The Art Works category is the NEA's largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts. Olathe Civic Theatre Association (OCTA) begins 2018 with the award-winning musical Violet, an inspiring story of a girl with a disfiguring scar who sets out on a journey to seek healing and finds her true beauty along the way. With book and lyrics by Brian Crawley, music by Jeanine Tesori, and a story based on 'The Ugliest Pilgrim' by Doris Betts, this production is helmed by local theatre veterans Julie Ewing (director) and Kevin Bogan (music director).
