CHICAGO – Porchlight Music Theatre and Artistic Director Michael Weber are proud to announce the first production in a new musical revue series, New Faces Sing Broadway. The first edition with Director Porchlight Music Theatre Artistic Associate Christopher Pazdernik, Music Director Kory Danielson and Emcee Meghan Murphy is New Faces Sing Broadway 1991, Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. at Uptown Underground, 4707 N Broadway. Tickets are $22, with no drink minimum and are available at porchlightmusictheatre.org or by calling 773.777.9884. Future performances are scheduled for Tuesday, March 22, 2016 and Tuesday, June 7, 2016.


From 1934 – 1968, New Faces, a series of musical revues on Broadway in New York City was instrumental in introducing the public to emerging talent with names like June Carrol, Robert Clary, Imogene Coca, Jane Connell, “Professor” Irwin Corey, Henry Fonda, Alice Ghostley, Ronny Graham, Billy Hayes, Tiger Haynes, Van Johnson, Madeline Kahn, Eartha Kitt, Robert Klein, Carol Lawrence, Paul Lynde, Virginia Martin, Bill McCutcheon, John Reardon, Maggie Smith, Inga Swenson and many, many more.

In tribute, Porchlight Music Theatre announces a new Chicago musical revue series, New Faces Sing Broadway. The first production in the series shines a spotlight on the year 1991 and is hosted by Meghan Murphy and features a company of Porchlight’s hottest up-and-coming talent. The evening is a journey from the start to the finish of the 1991 musical season on Broadway, peppered with photos and films of the era in an exciting multimedia presentation. Songs featured from include numbers from Once on this Island, Shogun: The Musical, Miss Saigon, The Secret Garden, The Will Rogers Follies and more.

In addition to the performances on stage, Murphy engages the audience to sing along as the chorus of some of the best-known production numbers from that classic Broadway season and challenges them to “Name that Show Tune,” a fun and fast-moving music theatre game where participants win prizes.

The company’s many accolades include 11 Black Theatre Alliance nominations and two awards, as well as a total of 103 Joseph Jefferson Award nominations resulting in 31 Jeff Awards, recently garnering back to back Best Production awards for A Class Act (2103) and Ain’t Misbehavin’ (2014).
