Composer Dominick Argento Announces Professorship Endowment at Eastman School of Music

Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Dominick Argento, who celebrates his 85th birthday on October 27, has made a commitment through a charitable remainder trust to endow a professorship at the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music to the value of $1.5 million. In honor of Argento, who received his Ph.D. in composition at Eastman in 1958, the endowed position will be named the Dominick J. Argento Professor.

Blackfriars Theatre, a professional, not-for-profit theatre located on Rochester, NY's "Theatre Row" keeps the beginning of the Rochester theatre season rolling with the premiere of "[title of show]," a musical, with music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen, and book by Hunter Bell. This Tony Award nominated musical finds two struggling writers, Jeff and Hunter, who hear about a new musical theatre festival. However, the deadline is a mere three weeks away. With nothing to lose, the pair decides to try and create something entirely new with the help of two of their best friends, Heidi and Susan. They make a pact to write up until the festival's deadline and dream about the show changing their lives. A tuneful love letter to the uniquely American art form.

One Girl's Romp Through M.I.T.'s Male Math Maze, tonight, September 14, at 7:00pm in the Martel Theater of the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film. Free and open to the public, Truth Values, a project of Unexpected Theater, is written and performed by Gioia De Cari and directed by Miriam Eusebio. This Fall, the Kitchen Theatre will offer a series of acting classes every Monday in October from 7-9PM. Geared for participants ages 15 and up, the classes will include a mix of theatre games and exercises along with detailed discussions and demonstrations on how to break down a script, how to establish objectives and beats, and how to build a character. Eventually, the group will take to the stage, rehearsing short scenes and exploring staging and how to play to an audience. The series will conclude with an informal gathering on October 29th.
