Juilliard String Quartet Plays Cooperstown Summer Music Festival Tonight, 8/24

The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival presents the Juilliard String Quartet tonight, August 24 at 7:30 pm at The Farmers' Museum. The all-Beethoven program features the String Quartet in C sharp minor, Op. 131, and the Quartet in A minor, Op. 132.

The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse's Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival is now accepting new works submissions to be considered for season two of The PiTCH. The PiTCH, a new-works series, offers creative teams the opportunity to "pitch" their newest idea for a musical to a live audience. Audiences are then invited to give their feedback on the production.

Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts today announced that Jeffrey P. Haydon has been appointed its new Chief Executive Officer, effective September 17, 2012. He succeeds Michael Barrett, who had been Caramoor's Chief Executive and General Director since 2003. Mr. Haydon currently holds the position of Executive Director of the Ojai Music Festival, in Ojai, California.
Bard College Launches 'Live Arts Bard' Residency and Commissioning Program

This September, Bard College will launch a residency and commissioning program for the performing arts, Live Arts Bard (LAB). LAB is a partnership between the Theater and Performance Program and the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, and will be run under the leadership of Gideon Lester, the college's new Director of Theater Programs.

Sean Daniels, Geva's newly appointed Director of Artistic Engagement/Artist at Large, will head off to Estonia this week for "Stage Island" the International Seminar on Contemporary Playwriting on Hiiumaa Island. The seminar gathers a director, playwright, and dramaturg or literary advisor and team of actors from the USA and each of four Baltic nations: Estonia, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland, to develop new scripts from the participating countries and secure English translations for the plays developed during the conference. The conference will also establish new artistic contacts and collaborations between countries.

The fifth show in Cortland Repertory Theatre's 41st summer season comes to the Little York Pavilion by way of Canada, with the award-winning comedic drama "The Drawer Boy" written by Michael Healey. First produced in Toronto in 1999, the play has gone on to be produced throughout Canada, the United States and London, winning numerous awards including The Governor's General Award and being listed on Time Magazine's list of "Top Ten New Classics". In the early 2000's, it had the distinction of being the most produced play in U.S. regional theatres; this production will mark CRT's debut performance. Geva Theatre Center Awarded $25,000 Grant

The National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest has selected Geva Theatre Center as one of 42 professional theatre companies in the United States to participate in Shakespeare for a New Generation, bringing the finest productions of Shakespeare to middle and high school students. This is the 10th year of Shakespeare for a New Generation, and the first time that Geva has participated in the program.
