Geva Theatre Center's 2013 Fielding Nextstage Season Continues With BOB, Opening 3/7
Geva Theatre Center's 2013 Fielding Nextstage Season continues with Bob, by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb. Directed by Sean Daniels, the production begins performances on March 7 and runs in the Fielding Nextstage through March 24.
Bob traces the highly unusual life of Bob, born on Valentine's Day in the bathroom of a White Castle Restaurant. The ensuing rags-to-riches-to-fame-to-legacy-to-the-love of living life tale follows Bob on the funny, poignant and epic pursuit of his dream. A dream of greatness. The greatness of Bob.
Peter Sinn Nachtrieb is one of the most produced playwrights in the country. His plays include boom (one of the most produced plays of the 2009-2010 season), T.I.C. (Trenchcoat in Common), Hunter Gatherers (2007 ATCA/Steinberg New Play Award, 2007 Will Glickman Prize), Colorado, Litter: The True Story of the Framingham Dodecatuplets and Bob. His work has been seen Off-Broadway and across the country. He is a member of New Dramatists and is the Playwright in Residence at the Z Space Studio in San Francisco.
Commissioned by South Coast Repertory in 2009, Bob premiered at the Mainstage of the Humana Festival of New American Plays in 2011 and won the Barrie and Bernice Stavis Award. This production of Bob comes to Rochester from Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville, Georgia where it opened in January to enthusiastic audiences and rave reviews. Director Sean Daniels commented, "Bob is a great story about the ordinary people in our lives that turn out to be heroes. It's about how we're all connected, and how we never really get to see the profound and beautiful effect we have on others, even though we're always aware of the thousands of great people who have helped to shape us into who we are. Also, it's just about the funniest new play I know."
Making his Geva Theatre Center debut is Dan Triandiflou as Bob. A Rochester native now based in Atlanta, Dan is an alumnus of Greece Olympia High School and credits Geva Theatre Center with inspiring him time and time again as he grew up here. Veronika Duerr, Scott Warren, Wendy Melkonian and Doyle Reynolds complete the ensemble cast.
Bob is directed by Sean Daniels. The creative team includes Michael Raiford (Scenic Design), Alan Yeong (Costume Design), Mike Post (Lighting Design) and Matt Callahan (Sound Design).
Bob begins performances on March 7 and runs in the Fielding Nextstage through March 24.
