Oh, how life changes in 20 months. Not quite two years, not quite one and a half. In March 2020, artistic director of Jermyn Street Theatre Tom Littler teamed up with Michael Pennington to deliver Shakespeare’s swansong. That production played for six performances before closing down due to the  “unprecedented times” we’re still dealing with. It was this critic’s last show before theatres closed down and everything changed.

by Jerri Shafer on December 01, 2021

Hamlet's a challenge for any actor, but when Jessica is cast as the titular character in a New York production, it sends her into an existential tailspin. It doesn't help that her acting coach is borderline abusive, or that every Starbucks barista with an MFA tells her she's too young for the role. Or that she's somehow managed to make Sir Patrick Stewart her nemesis. Not to mention the fact that she's a woman. How can Jessica figure out “to be or not to be,” when she can't even figure out herself? Featuring an all-female cast performing multiple roles, Women Playing Hamlet is rip-roaring fun for Shakespeare fans and haters alike. Performances run December 3rd thru the 19th, 2021 at Curtain Players, 5691 Harlem Road, Galena, Ohio 43021. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit: http://curtainplayers.org

I meet new people on a daily basis, but usually not through my own volition to do so. It's either at work or because I have a class with someone, but usually, I meet people who simply don't fulfill me or satisfy my type of personality. Excuse me if it sounds a tee bit extreme, but it's been TORTURE to find people I really like to be with. As pathetic as this sounds, I used to have friends who I looked forward to seeing every day, thus a surge of nostalgia creeps up on me. Though the point of the encounter was always at school, which if you think about it, I have no other choice but to attend (this will not be a rant against education, I promise) so it got me pondering for a while
