Boston Singers And Actors Join Forces For LUCRETIA

Acclaimed actress Paula Plum directs a cast of Boston-area singers and actors this week to explore the myth of Lucretia, the ancient Roman woman whose cruel sexual violation brought down an empire, and whose story has been retold for centuries by poets, playwrights and painters.  The free public event, "Reclaiming Lucretia: Responding to Sexual Violence through Music, Poetry and Story," takes place Thursday, February 7 at 6 pm at District Hall, 75 Northern Avenue in the Boston Seaport. THE MOSQUITO Comes to Provincetown

The Provincetown Theater is proud to announce a new theatrical partner in its 2019 Season - the Outer Cape storytelling slam, The Mosquito. Starting Today, February 2nd at 7:00pm, The Mosquito at the Provincetown Theater will perform every first Today night of the month thru April 6th. "We're thrilled to pop up at the Provincetown Theater for an extended season," says The Mosquito's creator Vanessa Vartabedian. "Having performed in many plays at Provincetown Theater since 1996, I can't imagine a better place to add to this history than by bringing new storytellers to the stage and new stories to Provincetown."
FSPA Alum Returns To Coach Musical Theatre Students In BRING IT ON

The Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) Musical Theater Department will present Bring it On The Musical with an all-student cast on Saturday, February 9 and Sunday, February 10 at THE BLACK BOX in downtown Franklin. FSPA student productions are directed, choreographed, and music directed by FSPA's outstanding faculty, but Bring It On the Musical also required some outside coaching for the cheerleading stunts central to the musical's plot. FSPA brought in alumna Brooke Collins to work with the students and turn a group of musical theater students into convincing cheerleaders.
FSPA Piano Student to Perform at Carnegie Hall

As a result of his outstanding 2017-18 Royal Conservatory examination, Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) piano student Peter Bryan, has been invited to perform at the New York Celebration of Excellence Recital at Carnegie Hall on February 16. The 13-year old Franklin resident has been studying with Ida Zelman at FSPA for 6 years. This will mark Bryan's second performance at Carnegie Hall. He performed at the iconic venue last February as a result of last year's exam.

Huntington Theatre Company Announces August Wilson Monologue Competition Boston Regional Winners

Anotidaishe Chikunya, a senior at Dana Hall School, took first place on Monday, January 28, 2019 with her performance as Berniece from The Piano Lesson at the Boston Regional Finals of the August Wilson Monologue Competition, held for the ninth year by the Education Department of the Huntington Theatre Company, the playwright's longtime artistic home.  Sarah Purvis, a junior at Boston Collegiate Charter School, was named first runner-up and portrayed Black Mary from Gem of the Ocean; Osamede Izevbizua (Toledo, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), a junior at John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science, was named second runner-up. The three will receive a total of $850 in prize money, and the top two winners will be awarded an all-expense-paid trip to New York City where they will perform their monologues at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre in the National Competition on May 6, 2019. Airfare, hotel accommodations, workshops, and tickets to attend a Broadway production will be provided in collaboration with Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company and Jujamcyn Theatres. The national competition is free and open to the public.

Barrington Stage Company announced today that Stacey Rose is the inaugural winner of The Bonnie and Terry Burman New Play Award, a new national play contest at BSC. Rose will be awarded $25,000 and her play America v. 2.1: The Sad Demise & Eventual Extinction of the American Negro will receive a world premiere production at BSC.
