Huntington Theatre Company Presents SPAMILTON: An American Parody

Huntington Theatre Company will present the North American tour of the acclaimed musical comedy, Spamilton: An American Parody from February 12 through March 10, 2019 at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA. The tour launched at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, OH on December 20, 2018 and is now on tour across the country, playing ten multi-week engagements in its first season.
The Huntington Announces New England Premiere Of SPAMILTON

Huntington Theatre Company will present the New England premiere of the hit musical comedy Spamilton: An American Parody at the Wimberly Theatre in the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA in Boston's South End, from February 12 to March 10, 2019. Spamilton joins the 2018 - 2019 season as a special added event. Tickets are now on sale only to Huntington subscribers; any remaining tickets will be made available for sale to the public in December.
Chester Theatre Company Announces Original Work Commissioned, New Play Program Launched

Chester Theatre Company (CTC) has just announced a significant, new artistic undertaking. Playwright Darcy Parker Bruce has been selected to author the new work, tentatively slated for the 2020 Season. Longtime, loyal CTC attendees Frances Henry and Walter Korzec have generously underwritten the project with a $100,000 gift to the company. This marks the first commission in what the organization sees as a new artistic initiative, to consistently develop original works that will appear on its stage and have life in other theatres beyond Western Massachusetts.
WAM Theatre Seeks Applications For New Elder Ensemble

Artistic Director Kristen van Ginhoven, Associate Artistic Director Talya Kingston, and the WAM team are proud to launch their much-anticipated Elder Ensemble - a performance group for a diverse cohort of women over 65 years. In July 2019, this group will spend three weeks creating an original performance using devised theatre methods. An informational workshop will be held on March 2nd, 2019, from 11am-1pm at Lenox Yoga.

Double Edge Theatre to Preview New Solo Performance SUGA

On March 6-10, Double Edge Theatre will preview its original solo performance SUGA, with the premiere slated for the Fall. The performance is conceived, created, and performed by Travis Coe and directed by Stacy Klein. Travis, a DE Associate Ensemble Artist, began working on SUGA in 2016 as he explored the Afro-Caribbean/Latinx history of his family, and their native lands spanning Belize, Nicaragua, and Puerto Rico. Klein, DE's Founder and Artistic Director, watched some of Travis' early creative process and began working in dialogue together with Travis to develop the material and create this performance. It is an investigation of freedom, and the bounds personal, artistic, societal, and political one must break through to achieve that end. As a caretaker of a museum of memory, Coe touches/reveals/remixes all the aspects of himself as Queer, Black, Latino, and American, to find the path to sing, fly, run - toward Freedom.

Freed-slave and famed Boston poet, Phillis Wheatley was one of the best-known poets in pre-19th century America. Phillis Wheatley's life and friendship with Obour Tanner comes alive on stage in Jacqui Parker's (Director of 2018's The Agitators at GSC) new play, Wrestling with Freedom. Educated and enslaved in the household of prominent Boston commercialist John Wheatley, paraded in front of the still-young American political leadership and the English empire's aristocracy, Phillis Wheatley was the abolitionists' illustrative testimony that freed slaves were both artistic and intellectual. She was a household name across the world after publishing her poetry in both England and the United States - her achievements a catalyst for the fledgling antislavery movement.
