Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Harford County (UUFHC), with license from the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and Broadway Impact, has announced a one-night-only reading of "8," a play chronicling the historic trial in the federal constitutional challenge to California's Proposition 8, written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter and AFER Founding Board Member Dustin Lance Black.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) is kicking off its 2012-13, 15th anniversary mainstage season with The 39 Steps. Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This 2-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of 4), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance! MET Associate Artistic Director Gene' Fouche' directs Patrick Barlow's adaptation of John Buchan's 1915 novel and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock which opened on Broadway in 2008 and won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. The show which The New York Times called, 'theatre at its finest' and the New York Post raved was, 'the most entertaining show on Broadway' ended its New York run after three years and record setting number of performances for a comedy, 1,135.

The Children's Playhouse of Maryland kicks off its 2012-2013 season with the musical Oliver! The play with music, lyrics, and book by Lionel Bart is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel "Oliver Twist." The musical will be performed 1 p.m. Sept. 15 - 16, 22-23, 29 -30 and 4 p.m. Sept. 23. in the J Building Lecture Hall at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. The 4 p.m. show will be sign-language interpreted by students from the CCBC Catonsville Interpreter Preparation Program. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for birthday parties or scout troops. Tickets are available in advance through the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-ARTS (2787) and at the door, space permitting.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) improv and sketch comedy troupe, The Comedy Pigs, debuted in early 1993. This coming 2012-2013 season they will celebrate twenty years of laughter with eight prime-time shows, eight late night shows and a two week run of a brand new sketch show for a total of twenty-two hilarious nights of comedy. The Pigs are also adding four new members to the pen for this landmark upcoming season.

The Fun Company prides itself on producing quality family theater for children of all ages. Last season the Fun Company produced two original shows, one original adaptation, and took a turn at Commedia Del Art. The result was one of the most successful seasons the Fun Company has ever had. This season Julie Heber, director of the Fun Company, plans to follow the same formula. This season, the Fun Company will once again present two original shows, an original adaptation, and a piece of Commedia Theater.

In addition Way Off Broadway's regularly scheduled Mainstage and Children's Theatre seasons, the theatre also hosts a number of special events each year. Some of the most popular events at the Frederick theatre are Way Off Broadway's interactive murder mysteries where the audience gets involved and helps to solve the case at hand. In recent years, the mysteries have been set to the backdrop of a competitive cooking show, a drag night club, and a talent contest, much like American Idol. Way Off Broadway and Justin M. Kiska, the author of the theatre's interactive mysteries, are adding a new case to their crime files this year with The Campaign Caper, which will have performances Wednesday, October 24th and Thursday, October 25th.

The new site will include a collection of photographs of Way Off Broadway performers, associates, and guests as they travel the globe. Some on national tours, others simply visiting fun locations while on vacation. Making all of these people Famous in Frederick is their official "Famous in Frederick" branded shirt.
