THE NORTH AVENUE PLAYS (Summer 2011)
A Community Project for the Station North Arts District (Annual Project)
...the ultimate 24 hour play festival...

Each installment of the North Avenue Plays is unique, but they all share the same goal, for everyone involved, audience and artists, to have the most fun they've ever had in theater.

Step 1 Six-eight playwrights meet at the beginning of the North Avenue Bus line, where they randomly draw a number (three four, or five). They then blindly draw that number of actors' headshots from a second bag-these are the actors they will be writing a play for. They board the bus.

Step 2 Approximately ninety minutes later they exit at the last stop with a script. They are met by the directors, who are matched up with a playwright by blind draw.

Step 3 They all board the bus. Everyone rides down to North and Howard Streets (Load of Fun) in groups, reading over the play and discussing. All the actors are waiting for their arrival at the intersection of North and Howard Streets.

Step 4 The cast are then announced and the teams are finally complete: Actors join up with directors, playwrights. Everyone heads into Load of Fun for a meet and greet while scripts are photocopied

Step 5 Once the photo coping is finished The groups all meet for a brief introduction to the set and crew, followed by a read thru of the first three pages and last page of each script.

Step 6 After the order has been sent everyone is sent home.

Step 7 The following day rehearsals begin at 1pm and end at 7pm. Call is 7:30pm. The show goes up off book and without a net at 8pm. Almost 24 hours after the process was begun.
