Rehearsals are underway for Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Boublil and Schonberg's legendary musical Miss Saigon, which will return to its original home, The Broadway Theater (1681 Broadway) beginning performances Wednesday, March 1. The original production of Miss Saigon opened at the same theater on April 11, 1991 and played there through January 28, 2001.

Beginning one week after the election, Primary Stages commissioned a collection of over 70 pieces written by a diverse array of playwrights from their artistic community. Each artist crafted a short monologue from the perspective of a character in America on the morning of November 9th.  Undertaking MORNING IN AMERICA acutely reflects the responsibility and capability of a non-profit, artist-focused organization to respond directly and rapidly to current events. Through readings, talk-backs and roundtable discussions, Primary Stages strives to create an accessible and energetic space where artists and audiences can come together as a community to share their stories and process their experiences.

Audiences have a final chance to 'Seize the Day!' - tickets are now available for 'Disney's Newsies: The Broadway Musical!,' playing in U.S. movie theaters for three days only on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday February 18 at 12:55 p.m. and Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. (all local times). Captured live at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre earlier this year, the event reunites original cast members Jeremy Jordan, Kara Lindsay, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, and Ben Fankhauser.

Jake Gyllenhaal makes his musical Broadway debut in the revival of Sunday in the Park with George, set to begin previews at the historic Hudson Theatre on February 11, and officially opening February 23rd. Just yesterday the company gathered to cut the ribbon on Broadway's newest (and oldest) theatre!

Just last night, the company of IN TRANSIT celebrated a milestone performance at the Circle in the Square Theatre. BroadwayWorld was on hand as they commemorated 100 performances on Broadway with 100 Schmackary's cookies!

The annual KLEBAN PRIZE FOR MUSICAL THEATRE presentation took place just yesterday, February 6 at ASCAP.  Some of Broadway's legendary musical theatre creators and young-up-and-comers will come out to honor the two prize winners, perform some of their material, and present their prizes at a food and drink reception hosted by ASCAP and BMI. 

Ghostlight Records and the cast of Broadway's FALSETTOS celebrated the cast album of the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of William Finn and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical - based on the Lincoln Center Theater production - with a special in-store performance and CD signing at Barnes & Noble, Friday, January 27 at 7:00 PM. Playwrights Horizons will soon present THE LIGHT YEARS, the world premiere of a new play written by Drama Desk Award winner Hannah Bos (The Open House, Jacuzzi, Blood Play, Buddy Cop 2) and Obie Award winner Paul Thureen (Jacuzzi, Blood Play, Buddy Cop 2), directed and developed by Obie Award winner Oliver Butler (Jacuzzi, The Open House, Blood Play), made by The Debate Society. The production will be the fourth production of the theater company's 2016/2017 Season.

Atlantic Theater Company's world premiere play Tell Hector I Miss Him by Paola Lazaro, directed by David Mendizabal, will play through February 19 at Atlantic Stage 2 (330 West 16th Street), where it just opened last night.

Members of the cast and creative team of NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 and author Steven Suskin celebrated the release of the book The Great Comet: The Journey of a New Musical to Broadway at Barnes & Noble and BroadwayWorld was there to capture the event!

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) just began performances for the 13th annual UNDER THE RADAR FESTIVAL on Wednesday, January 4. This popular and highly-anticipated program of The Public Theater's winter season includes artists from across the U.S. and around the world including Belarus, France, Germany, Indonesia, Lebanon, and the UK. Curated by UTR Director Mark Russell, this year's UNDER THE RADAR expands to venues throughout New York City in addition to The Public Theater's downtown home at Astor Place.

Roundabout Theatre Company will soon present the world premiere of On the Exhale, by Martin Zimmerman (Netflix's Narcos), directed by Tony Award nominee Leigh Silverman (Roundabout's Violet). Celebrated Tony Award nominee and Obie Award-winning actress Marin Ireland (reasons to be pretty) will star in this solo play.

Just last night, Roundabout Theatre Company welcomed Kelli O'Hara (Lilli Vanessi), Will Chase (FrEd Graham), Robert Fairchild (Bill), Helene Yorke (Lois), Chuck Cooper (Harry Trevor/Baptista), Norm Lewis (Harrison), Richard Kind (Gangster) and John Pankow (Gangster) for a one-night-only Benefit Concert Reading of Kiss Me, Kate, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter and book by Sam and Bella Spewack, music direction by Patrick Vaccariello and choreography by Warren Carlyle. Roundabout's Associate Artistic Director, Scott Ellis, directed this special event.

Atlantic Theater Company presents the world premiere production of the new musical The Band's Visit, directed by Lortel and Obie Award winner David Cromer and featuring a book by Drama Desk Award nominee Itamar Moses, an original score by three-time Tony Award nominee David Yazbek, choreography by Patrick McCollum and movement by Lee Sher. The Band's Visit began previews November 11 and opened just last night at Atlantic Theater Company's Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).

The New York City premiere of MCC Theater's new musical Ride the Cyclone, the third musical in MCC's now-iconic 30-year history of producing new works for the American theater, began previews on November 9, 2016 at the Lucille Lortel Theater and opened just last night November 30.
