The Acropolis Museum Presents Gallery Talks

The Acropolis Museum gives visitors the opportunity to participate in presentations of selected exhibits held by Archaeologist - Hosts. Additionally, Archaeologist-Hosts are available to answer your questions about the Museum exhibits every day between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Visitors can find them by looking for staff wearing 'archaeologist' badges in the Museum exhibition areas.

Gallery Talks:

1. A walk along the Parthenon frieze

A presentation of the ionic frieze of the Parthenon. Visitors have the opportunity to discuss with Archaeologist-Hosts the varied significance of the frieze which depicts a subject inspired by Ancient Athens' most glorious celebration, the Panathenaic Festival. The frieze's location on the building, how it was viewed, its images and their importance, aesthetic concerns, how it was made and its history to present day are discussed.

The presentation is enhanced with special video projections in the Parthenon Gallery featuring 3D-imaging of the frieze blocks and with the use of a digital tablet.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday: at 11 a.m. in English and at 12 noon in Greek
Participation is limited to 25 visitors per session.

2. Masterpieces in the Acropolis Museum

A presentation of masterworks on display in the Museum, their significance in their time and for world art. Visitors have the opportunity to engage Archaeologist-Hosts in discussion about art, aesthetics, religion and society at the time these works were created, all of which belonged to ancient Athens' most important sanctuary, the Acropolis. The way in which they are exhibited in the Museum is also discussed.

Saturday & Sunday: at 11:30 a.m. in English and at 12:30 p.m. in Greek
Participation is limited to 25 visitors per session.
