Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company presents WHAT: "The Apple Tree" Music, book and lyrics by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick Additional book material by Jerome Coopersmith Based on stories by Mark Twain, Frank R. Stockton and Jules Feiffer "The Apple Tree" features three short musicals based on stories by Mark Twain, Frank R. Stockton and Jules Feiffer with each musical comedy vignette highlighting a message about moral values. The first act is based on Mark Twain's "The Diary of Adam and Eve," the second act is based on Frank R. Stockton's "The Lady or the Tiger?" and the third act is based on Jules Feiffer's "Passionella." Directed and choreographed by Nicola Bosco-Alvarez, this full-staged production showcases 16 young adult performers of Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company performing with live music orchestration under the direction of Jess Hamel. Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company (YPTMTC) is a teenage performing arts company sponsored by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and The Friends of the Company. Now in its 30th year, YPTMTC offers teens instruction in drama, voice, acting, dance and technical theater and the opportunity to experience musical theater at a professional level. YPTMTC was recently in the national news when YPTMTC alum, Lena Hall, won the 2014 Tony Award for her featured actress performance as the male character Yitzhak in the rock musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch." "As You Like It" By William Shakespeare Directed by Robert Currier Marin Shakespeare kicks off its 25th Silver Season with a classic production of "As You Like It," Shakespeare's exuberant comedy set in the Forest of Arden. After being wrongfully forced into exile, Rosalind disguises herself as a man in this timeless, gender-bending romantic comedy. Featuring Elena Wright as Rosalind and Teddy Spencer as Orlando. "Pay As You Like It" admission for all performances of "As You Like It." Thanks to a special 25th Silver Season gift from an anonymous donor, when audiences attend any performance of "As You Like It" this summer, all tickets are "Pay As You Like It." Donations of any amount will be accepted at the door for all performances July 5 to Aug. 10, 2014, including the Silver Season Celebration on Saturday, July 12, 2014. The July 12 pre-show, opening night event at 6:30 p.m. will include a dessert buffet, champagne toasts and special entertainment, music and festivities. Performances are presented in repertory Fridays, Saturday and Sundays from July 5 to Aug. 10, 2014. Check for specific performances dates and times at the Marin Shakespeare website. The amphitheater opens one hour prior to show time for picnicking. Audiences are encouraged to bring picnics or purchase snacks at the Theatre Cafe.
