The School of American Ballet's 2014 Winter Ball, in celebration of SAB's 80th Anniversary, took place at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater on Monday, March 3, 2014 and raised more than $1.2 million for scholarships and school programs. Sponsored by legendary French jewelry Maison, Van Cleef & Arpels for the seventh consecutive year, the evening began with cocktails at 7pm and dinner at 8pm, followed by a student performance choreographed specially for the occasion, and The Encore dessert and dancing, sponsored by fifth-generation luxury house, J. Mendel. The proceeds from this event enable SAB to distribute $1.9 million annually in student scholarships as well as support the School's renowned faculty and state-of-the-art facilities at Lincoln Center. Cleveland Ballet Youth Company Makes Debut Performance With WHERE IT ALL BEGAN, 4/25

The newly established Cleveland Ballet Youth Company will make its debut performance with the program Where it All Began, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. in PlayhouseSquare's Hanna Theatre. It is no coincidence that this production will take place on the very stage where the former Cleveland Ballet hosted its first professional performances during the late 1970's. Founded by former Cleveland San Jose Ballet principal dancer, Gladisa Guadalupe, who also serves as the company's artistic director, Cleveland Ballet Youth Company is laying the ground work to re-introduce professional ballet to Cleveland audiences. Where it All Began will feature the entire company of Cleveland Ballet Youth Company along with several guest artists from the company's professional division. On March 12, 2014, at 7:30pm, American Repertory Ballet will present Firebird at McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ. This program will feature the world premiere of Douglas Martin's Firebird, set to Stravinsky's score; Martin's Rite of Spring, also set to music by Stravinsky; and the company premiere of Kirk Peterson's Afternoon of a Faun, set to Debussy's score. These ballets are inspired by the 20th-century works created for Sergei Diaghilev's revolutionary Ballets Russes: L'Oiseau de feu, Le Sacre du printemps, and L'Apres-midi d'un faune. Carnegie Hall today announced that pianist Natalia Katyukova has graciously agreed to step in for Malcolm Martineau, playing a full-length song recital with sopranos Joelle Harvey, Emalie Savoy, tenor Paul Appleby, and baritone John Brancy, as part of its Discovery Day: Benjamin Britten event on Saturday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m. in Weill Recital Hall.
