    In response to popular demand, Labyrinth Theater Company (Artistic Director Mimi O'Donnell, Executive Director Danny Feldman) extends the world premiere of Melissa Ross's Nice Girl to June 14. The production, which opens on May 27, reunites the Labyrinth Theater Company member with director Mimi O'Donnell, who worked together on the 2011 production of Thinner Than Water. Called "zesty, muscular and quick-witted," by Time Out New York, Thinner Than Water marked both the playwriting debut of Ross and the directorial debut of O'Donnell. (more...)

    The Tony Randall Theatrical Fund has announced the award winners for the 2015-2016 season. Furthering its commitment to non-profit theater companies, innovative productions, initiatives in the arts education and arts-based community outreach programs, TRTF grants aid the growth and development of each organization.  This year the Fund is pleased to award over $100,000, for general operating support grants to twelve exceptional theater companies with a proven track record of artistic excellence and ambitious, mission-driven theater-making.     An Anonymous Contributor, an original solo show about the shadowy world of academic ghostwriting, is returning to Stage Left Studio (214 W 30th Street, 6th floor) this June before touring to the Edmonton Fringe Festival in Canada in August. Performance dates for Stage Left are June 26th, 27th, and 28th at 7:30 pm, while the Fringe in Edmonton takes place on August 13th-23rd. Planet Connections Theatre Festivity will present an evening of world premiere plays by Erik Ehn, Halley Feiffer, Israel Horovitz and Neil LaBute addressing censorship in the arts in Playwrights for a Cause, to be held at 7:30pm on June 14, 2015 at the Sheen Center, located at 18 Bleecker Street. The Labyrinth Theatre Company Artistic Director told NYT: 'There are so many people who have written beautiful books about grief, who have been able to say it much better than I, but I guess I would say that, after a year has passed, I'm able to function, if that's the right word, or be in the world a little bit differently.'     The YALE INSTITUTE FOR MUSIC THEATRE (Mark Brokaw, Artistic Director) has selected two original book musicals to be developed in an intensive lab setting in New Haven, June 13-28: gilgamesh & the mosquito, music by Bob Kelly and book and lyrics by Sam Chanse; and Horizons, music by Ben Wexler and book and lyrics by Mark Sonnenblick.     ALL FOR ONE THEATER and GORGEOUS ENTERTAINMENT will offer a special presentation of GHOSTLIGHT 9: A MUSICAL GHOST STORY for three performances only, April 22, 28 and May 3. GHOSTLIGHT 9 is performed by All For One's Artistic Director Michael Wolk - who also provides book, music and lyrics - and directed by Aaron Mark. Mr. Wolk accompanies himself on guitar. GHOSTLIGHT 9, a charmingly spooky tale inspired by the ghost that famously haunts the New Amsterdam Theater, will take place at The Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street in Manhattan) to coincide with ALL FOR ONE THEATER production of the New York premieres of 8 STOPS and MAJOR TOM.     Williamstown Theatre Festival Artistic Director Mandy Greenfield has announced a New Play Commissioning Program and New Musical Commissioning Program, through which the Festival will commission and develop three to five projects annually from playwrights, composers and collaborative devisers from across the career spectrum. The program launches with inaugural artists Fernanda Coppel (whose new play King Liz premieres this summer at Second Stage), Halley Feiffer (I'm Gonna Pray for You So Hard, which just finished an acclaimed run at the Atlantic Theater Company), and Benjamin Scheuer (creator of the current Off Broadway hit The Lion). Each commission also includes a writing residency at Williamstown Theatre Festival. (more...)
