(New York, October 14, 2015)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that The Costume Institute's spring 2016 exhibition will be manus x machina: fashion in an age of technology, on view from May 5 through August 14, 2016(preceded on May 2 by The Costume Institute Benefit).  Presented in the Museum's Robert Lehman Wing and Anna Wintour Costume Center, the exhibition will explore the impact of new technology on fashion and how designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear. Nicole Parker stars opposite Justin Kirk in the west coast premiere of THESE PAPER BULLETS! A Modish Ripoff of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing at Geffen Playhouse this month. Written by Rolin Jones (Weeds, Friday Night Lights, Boardwalk Empire) with songs by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and directed by Jackson Gay, the show opened to great reviews at Yale Repertory Theatre where it premiered in 2014. Now the Geffen begins its 20th anniversary season with what promises to be a British invasion on stage not seen since the Beatles. Still high on the adrenaline of a full day of rehearsal, an energetic Parker spoke to me about her experience working on the new production. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced today that Harold Koda, who has been Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute since 2000, will step down on January 8, 2016.  Campbell also announced that Andrew Bolton, currently a Curator in the department, will become Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute upon Mr. Koda's departure. (New York, September 8, 2015) — The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that the exhibition China: Through the Looking Glass, which closed yesterday, attracted 815,992 visitors during its run from May 7 to September 7, putting it in fifth place among the Museum's most visited exhibitions. Joining blockbusters such as Treasures of Tutankhamun (1978), Mona Lisa (1963), and Painters in Paris(2000), the popular show exceeded the number of visitors to The Costume Institute's prior most popular exhibition, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty(2011), which was the Met's eighth most visited exhibition, with 661,509 visitors.   (more...)

(New York, August 28, 2015)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art today announced extended hours for the final weekend of its extraordinarily popular Costume Institute exhibition China: Through the Looking Glass. On Friday, September 4, and Today, September 5, the exhibition will remain open to the public for three additional hours, closing at midnight. The Museum normally closes at 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Today evenings. The exhibition closes on Labor Day, Monday, September 7. (more...)
