Acclaimed street artist Bradley Theodore has painted two original murals in downtown Manhattan celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the OBIE Awards, Off Broadway's Highest Honor. Presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Village Voice, the 2015 OBIE Awards will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). The Costume Institute's spring 2015 exhibition, China: Through the Looking Glass, will be on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 7 through August 16, 2015 (preceded on May 4 by The Costume Institute Benefit). Presented in the Museum's Chinese Galleries and Anna Wintour Costume Center, the exhibition will explore the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries. In this collaboration between The Costume Institute and the Department of Asian Art, high fashion will be juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, including films, to reveal enchanting reflections of Chinese imagery. Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced today that David Chipperfield Architects (DCA) has been selected to develop a new design for the Southwest Wing for modern and contemporary art, and potentially for adjacent galleries for the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, as well as additional operational spaces. The announcement followed a year-long research and selection process led by a committee of the Museum's Board of Trustees. The committee's recommendation was approved by a vote of the full Board on March 10. (more...)
