George Balanchine stands as one of the towering figures in 20th century ballet. His Symphony in C was the first major work to showcase his trademark lean, high energy classicism. Set to Georges Bizet's exuberant score, the ballet has four movements with each featuring a different ballerina, danseur and corps de ballet. Also on the program is Maurice Ravel's famous "Bolero" in a dance setting by Cincinnati Ballet's Artistic Director and CEO, Victoria Morgan. A third ballet performed by the talented dancers of BalletMet rounds out this adventurous program.

The winner of the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Picnic takes place on Labor Day weekend in the joint backyards of two middle-aged widows. One house belongs to Flo Owens, who lives there with her two young daughters, Madge and Millie, and Rosemary, a boarder who is a spinster school teacher. The other house belongs to Helen Potts, who lives with her elderly invalid mother. Into this female atmosphere comes a young man named Hal Carter, whose animal vitality upsets the entire group. Flo is sensitively wary of the temptations Hal poses for her daughters, but Madge, bored with being merely a beauty, sacrifices her chances for a wealthy marriage for the excitement Hal promises.
