(8/15/2014) - Lifeline Theatre opens its 2014-15 KidSeries season with The Velveteen Rabbit, based on the beloved classic by Margery Williams, adapted by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Elise Kauzlaric, and directed by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Amanda Link. One Christmas morning, a shy stuffed bunny enters the world of a young boy's nursery. Initially ignored in favor of more modern toys, she waits patiently to be noticed, wondering if she will ever be loved like the others. When the wise old Skin Horse reveals the majesty and mystery of what it means to become real, the Velveteen Rabbit begins an odyssey of the heart to make a lasting connection with her boy that will endure for always. Return to a simpler time with this heartwarming story about the transformative power of love. This production is recommended for children ages five and up (children under two not permitted), and runs one hour with no intermission. The book will be on sale in the lobby.

(8/15/2014) - Theo Ubique's wildly popular summer cabaret, which sold out all of its first extension through the end of August, will be performed an additional 11 times between September 6 and October 6. After two weekends of Friday and Saturday 8 PM evening shows September 6, 7, 13 and 14, the sisters will pause for a week while Theo Ubique readies and opens its fall show, A Kurt Weill Cabaret, which will begin previews September 22, 2014. The Andrews Sisters will return on Wednesday, September 24 and play a schedule of varying performance dates through Saturday, October 6, including matinees on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5. The optional meal service will not be offered for the matinees.

(8/14/2014) - The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, celebrating their 125th Anniversary Season, has been chosen as one of five honorees for the City of Chicago and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) inaugural Fifth Star Awards, celebrating the city's creativity through artists, arts advocates and cultural institutions. The free public celebration, also honoring dancer Lou Conte, artist Richard Hunt, Grammy-winning composer, pianist and radio personality Ramsey Lewis and arts advocate Lois Weisberg, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7:00 pm at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park (201 E. Randolph St.) and will feature live performances and tributes throughout the evening.

(8/14/2014) - Ailyn Perez, born and bred in Chicago, returns to her hometown's famous Ravinia Festival for two performances (Aug 14 & 16) as Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni - a role that the Dallas Morning News has said shows her to be 'a singer of considerable nuance.' LA Opera Music Director James Conlon leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for the run, which also features baritone Christopher Maltman in the title role, baritone David Bizi? as Leporello, soprano Tamara Wilson as Donna Anna and tenor Saimir Pirgu as Don Ottavio. The Chicago Tribune praised Perez's 2012 appearance at Ravinia, as Pamina in Die Zauberflote, as 'show-stoppingall floating pianissimos and diminuendos and delicate pathos, which roused the sold-out crowd to a long, well-deserved ovation.'
