Monkees' Micky Dolenz to Lead New Play by 'Simpsons' Scribe - New York Bound?
Showbiz411's Roger Friedman reports exclusively that Monkees' band member Micky Dolenz is set to star in a new play by Emmy Award winner Mike Reiss, best known as the writer and producer of the long-running FOX animated series 'The Simpsons.'
Titled "Comedy Is Hard" the play will have its premiere on September 24th at Centerbrook Connecticut's Ivorytown Playhouse. According to Friedman, the play may hit the New York stage as early as 2015.
Set in a home for retired actors, the play "takes an affectionate look at the relationship and rivalry between a retired stand-up comedian and a classical actress."
Dolenz is no stranger to theater. Prior to becoming known worldwide as one quarter of the pop group the Monkees, the actor and singer was a child star. His stage credits include Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida"; "Grease"; "Pippin"; and "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum." He recently starred in the West End produciton of "Hairspray" in the role of Wilbur Turnblad.
