Fit Food Finds: HONEYBRAINS in NYC

"Fit Food Finds" recently enjoyed a visit to Honeybrains in the NoHo neighborhood of New York City. This spot has an inventive concept with the goal of serving nutritious, delicious food for the overall wellbeing of their guests. We found our visit to be a great culinary experience in a wonderful setting.

Honeybrains uses carefully chosen ingredients to create healthy and flavorful recipes offered in a stimulating, stress-free environment. It is the first brand dedicated to providing a comprehensive brain wellness experience through products, human interaction and discovery, and community engagement.

Honeybrains began with a conversation between three siblings, Alon Seifan, MD, MS; Galit Seifan, MFA; and Tomer Seifan, JD, which transpired into a deeper understanding of ingredients, health, and recipes. They teamed up with Co-Founder Christophe Jadot, Co-Owner of Yves Jadot Restaurant Group; Amy von Sydow Green, MD, MS, RD, and Executive Chef and Chief Culinary Officer Kevin Chun, to create the Honeybrains concept and menu with comprehensive, but easy to understand nutritional content labeling.

The team started by understanding the nutritional values of ingredients. They collected a list of superfood ingredients and identified five categories of foods that included legumes, vegetables, fruit, Omega 3s, whole grains all of which are good for wellbeing and have underlying benefits for the brain.

Honeybrains' menu has both grab-and-go and counter service. Breakfast is served until 11:00 with items like their Power Oatmeal with oatmeal & quinoa, spiced coconut milk and manuka honey with optional toppings of mixed berries, bananas, almonds, walnuts and dark chocolate or Eggs in Sunday Sauce poached free-range eggs, tomato sauce, Pecorino, basil and amaranth.

Tempting salads include Mediterranean Mind Salad with baby spinach, HB hummus, chickpeas, quinoa, cucumbers, tomatoes and spiced walnuts or their Honeybrains Cobb Salad with house greens, olive oil poached tuna, organic slab bacon, avocado, bleu cheese, chickpeas, spiced walnuts and an 8-minute egg. Savory sandwiches include Good Nightshade Sandwich with zucchini, Italian squash, red pepper, Japanese eggplant, sundried tomato pesto, tapenade and fresh herbs and the Avo Smash Sandwich with smashed avocado, alfalfa sprouts, black chile and pickled green papaya. We enjoyed the Wake and Steak Sandwich with coffee & herb crusted skirt steak, almond buttered potatoes and baby greens. Gluten free bread is available.
