Nicholas Gecan Exhibit to Open 2/7 at Kitchen Theatre

The Kitchen Theatre has announced a new show in its gallery: "Sentient Origin: Paintings by Nicholas Gecan." An opening reception will be held in conjunction with Gallery Night on Friday, February 7th.

These large abstracts, with their strong colors and bold textures, are showcased beautifully in the sleek, modern Kitchen Theatre lobby gallery.

Gecan says of his work: "My painting comes from process-driven use of non-traditional tools and methods of application. I'm interested in paint as a material versus a means to an image or picture. My work relates to natural processes, forces and replication across a range of materials.

For these pieces, I work with texture in layers to develop organic patterns that produce a structured painting. Relying on the features of previous solid layers of paint, I affect how the following fluid layer reacts to the surface. This method creates synergy between the painting and me, making it in part self-originating. By allowing the life of the material to be established, then responding, instead of imposing my vision, a natural composition occurs and the painting is realized."

The opening reception begins at 5:00 PM and ends at 7:30 PM. More information about the show can be found on the Kitchen Theatre website at www.kitchentheatre.org/nicholas_gecan_gallery.htm.
