Theatre Horizon Sets 2015-16 Season, Including BLACK NATIVITY & More

Theatre Horizon has announced its 11th Season. The 2015-2016 will be a vibrant, serious, and lively season. It includes: Langston Hughes' Black Nativity, Kenneth Lonergan's Lobby Hero, and the hysterical Fully Committed. Subscriptions are as high as $120 and run as low as $75. "We remain committed to serving the African American community as well as our beloved subscribers, with something for everyone in next season," said Theatre Horizon Artistic Director Erin Reilly. "Starting the year with a celebratory musical and ending with a hilarious comedy means we'll spread joy all year, while still providing a forum for serious community debate around the timely issues in Lobby Hero."

Black Nativity

Opening Night: Thursday, November 19, 7:30 p.m.

Written by Langston Hughes, Black Nativity is a jubilant gospel retelling of the story of a downtrodden people inspired by the arrival of a savior. Breathtaking West African dance and holiday favorites like Go Tell It on the Mountain and Joy to the World ring out in this bright American classic for the whole family. Each performance will feature a local gospel choir in this grand holiday classic.

Lobby Hero
February 18 - March 13, 2016

From behind the lobby desk in an apartment building, Jeff, a security guard, is drawn into a local police investigation involving a young black man and a white police officer. Meanwhile, loyalties are strained to the breaking point when Jeff tries to help an attractive rookie cop stand up to her seasoned partner. The truth becomes elusive--in both comic and tragic ways--in this timely play about the price of justice by Lonergan, a noted American Playwright and Screenwriter (This Is Our Youth, Gangs of New York, and Analyze This among others.)

Fully Committed is a one-man comedy starring Michael Doherty, last seen as Jack in last season's Into the Woods. Michael plays over 40 desperate characters in Manhattan's hottest restaurant. Theatre Horizon closes the season with this laugh-out-loud comedy about how far people will go to get a dinner reservation.
