PUTTING IT TOGETHER Starring Carol Burnett Set For SpectiCast Cinema Release, 11/6
Stephen Sondheim fans around the world may still be reeling from the simply stupendous screening of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG held earlier this week thanks to Fathom Events, and, now, yet another spectacular theatrical treat has been announced for this Fall: a special movie theater showing of Sondheim's PUTTING IT TOGETHER, starring legendary comedienne Carol Burnett.
Produced by Cameron Mackintosh and featuring a vast array of Sondheim musical gems, PUTTING IT TOGETHER is a musical revue - or "review" as it is wittily titled here - starring Burnett alongside four heavyweight triple-threats in George Hearn, John Barrowman, Ruthie Henshall and Bronson Pinchot.
PUTTING IT TOGETHER was directed on Broadway by Eric Shaeffer and was originally presented on the Great White Way in 1999 and captured on film in 2000.
The official description of PUTTING IT TOGETHER is as follows: "PUTTING IT TOGETHER is a musical "review" celebrating the songs of Stephen Sondheim. Drawing its title from a song in Sunday in the Park with George, the show came about due to many requests for an updated version of the 1976 Sondheim review, Side By Side By Sondheim, and had an interesting route to Broadway. Devised by Sondheim and Julia McKenzie, PUTTING IT TOGETHER first premiered in Oxford, England in 1992 with a cast that included Diana Rigg, Claire Moore and Clarke Peters."
Other upcoming productions featured in the Direct From Broadway series include filmings of the original Broadway productions of recent Tony Award-winning Best Musical MEMPHIS, long-running Leiber & Stoller revue SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, Duke Ellington's SOPHISTICATED LADIES, JEKYLL & HYDE starring David Hasselhoff and more.
The official description of Direct From Broadway is as follows: "Five Broadway musicals will burst on the big screen as captured live-in-performance. With stars like Carol Burnett and David Hasselhoff and the work of musical legends including Stephen Sondheim, Leiber and Stoller and Duke Ellington, our Direct From Broadway Series is not to be missed. Established in 1995, Broadway Worldwide was first-to-market in the high definition, surround sound production and worldwide distribution of Broadway musicals captured live-in-performance for digital cinema, DVD and television. SpectiCast will license, distribute and market the Direct From Broadway titles as a series of big screen, high definition exhibitions in performing arts centers, independent cinemas, art houses and museums nationwide this fall."
