Lakewood Theatre Company presents the Musical SEESAW

The Lost Treasures Collection, a series of rarely performed musical gems, is back for a seventh season at Lakewood Theatre Company. This year three musicals featuring the theme "New York, New York" will be presented in a concert/cabaret style. The second offering of the series, Seesaw, will have only three performances: Friday, February 17 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, February 18 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Seesaw is a musical based on the William Gibson Tony nominated play Two for the Seesaw. It features a book by Michael Bennett, music by Cy Coleman, and lyrics by Dorothy Fields. Lakewood's production is directed by Ron Daum and the musical director is Eric Nordin. Performances are on Lakewood's Side Door stage at Lakewood Center for the Arts in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
Each show in the series is presented script-in-hand, with minimal staging. No sets, no props (free from the usual trappings of a fully-staged production). Food and beverages are available for purchase before and during the show.
The 2016-17 Lost Treasures series of plays began with Tenderloin (October 21-22, 2016). The remaining two shows are Seesaw (February 17-18, 2017) and How Now Dow Jones (April 14-15, 2017). About Seesaw:
The Story: Jerry Ryan (Joe Theissen), a simple, handsome, young lawyer from America's mid-west, comes to New York where he gets involved in a romance with a kooky, young dancer whose background, ideas and attitudes are very different from his own. This is Gittel Mosca (Malia Tippets), who introduces Jerry to all aspects of her life in New York, peopled with strange and wonderful characters from every part of the globe. Jerry finds himself outside X-rated cinema marquees in Times Square, being propositioned by Eighth Avenue hookers, and watching a mobile theatre performance of Hamlet in Puerto Rican.
There are many tender moments for Jerry and Gittel and we also meet Gittel's best friend, David (David Swadis), a gay choreographer who dreams up the ultimate Broadway production number! Sadly the relationship between Jerry and Gittel fails to lead to anything more permanent. But both have learned things about themselves and about their emotional hang-ups - and also about New York, that very special and exciting city. Other featured performers in Lakewood's production include Cassi Kohl as Sophie/Sparkle and Alexander Salazar as Julio Gonzales/Oscar.
