Idina Menzel Becomes First Tony Award-Winning Best Actress To Score Billboard Top 10 Hit!
In an astonishingly impressive new achievement, Tony Award-winning WICKED and GLEE headliner Idina Menzel has become the first Best Actress recipient to score a Billboard Top 10 hit byway of her FROZEN anthem "Let It Go".
The worldwide success of "Let It Go" also acts as solid proof that Menzel also is largely responsible for the FROZEN soundtrack album topping the album charts for the sixth time this week, as well.
Of note, Barbra Streisand has claimed more than a dozen Top 10 hits and Bette Midler has charted highly, as well, but Streisand received a special Tony Award for "Star Of The Decade" in 1970 and Midler a similar special honor in 1974, neither ever winning as Best Actress.
Additionally, FROZEN has already surpassed the million-mark in total albums sold, with 1.3 million all together, but the first few weeks of sales were in 2013 so the new tally counts only the weeks so far in 2014.
Currently, FROZEN has sold 994,000 copies in 2014.
The official synopsis for FROZEN is as follows: "Fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) sets off on an epic journey-teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven-to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf (voice of Josh Gad), Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom."
FROZEN is directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, with a screenplay by Jennifer Lee and Shane Morris based on the Hans Christian Andersen story THE SNOW QUEEN. FROZEN stars the voice talents of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Santino Fontana, Josh Gad and more.
FROZEN was released in the US on November 27 and is currently in theaters nationwide.
