According to the Toronto Star, stage and screen star Geoffrey Rush will star as Man in the Chair in an upcoming big screen adaptation of the 2006 Broadway musical THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. Fred Schepisi is on board to direct the project. Rush previously starred in the Melbourne Theatre Company production of the show back in 2010.

Rush's film credits include 'Shine,' for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, 'Elizabeth,' 'Les Miserables,' 'Shakespeare in Love,' 'Quills,' and 'The Life and Death of Peter Sellars.' He has also appeared in many stage productions including THE WINTER'S TALE, TROILUS AND CRESSIDA, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, and Ionesco's EXIT THE KING, for which he won Outer Critics Circle, Theatre World, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Tony Awards.

The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. It debuted in 1998 at The Rivoli in Toronto and opened on Broadway on 1 May 2006.

The show won the Tony Award for Best Book and Best Score. It started as a spoof of old musicals written by friends for the wedding of Martin and his wife, Janet. The show has had major productions in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, London, and Japan, as well as two North American tours.
