David Krakauer

On Sunday 28 September, the historic Nederburg Manor House in Paarl will come alive with the melodious sounds of the clarinet when world-famous virtuoso, David Krakauer, accompanied by foremost pianist, Kathleen Tagg, takes his bow on the Nederburg stage.

In a programme selected exclusively for the Nederburg Concert Series, the first half includes brilliant classical works by Brahms, Debussy and Janacek, with the second half dedicated to lighter original compositions plus a collection of beautiful Klezmer melodies.

Born and raised in New York City, Krakauer is one of a select few artists that have the ability to convey their message to the back row and to galvanize an audience with a visceral power that connects on a universal level. Widely considered one of the greatest clarinetists on the planet, he has been praised internationally as a key innovator in modern Klezmer, as well as a major voice in classical music.

In September 2013, The Wall Street Journal wrote: "David Krakauer is such an overwhelmingly expressive clarinetist who moves so seamlessly between different genres, that for a minute you'd almost think that there's no appreciable difference between jazz, klezmer and formal classical music."

Accomplished South African pianist, Kathleen Tagg, has been praised by critics for her outstanding technique, artistic integrity and deep musicality. Since Tagg based herself in New York in 2001, she has plunged into the city's musical world, which has seen her performing in esteemed concert venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Centre.

The Krakauer-Tagg duo will perform at Nederburg in Paarl on Sunday 28 September at 17h00. Tickets at R200 per person include Nederburg wines as well as a delicious finger supper after the performance. Bookings can be made by calling 021 809 8412 during office hours or by sending an email to concerts@distell.co.za.
