Christmas Day Release of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY Delayed!

Christmas Day Release of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY Delayed!Showbiz411 has confirmed that The Weinstein Company has delayed the release date of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, the big screen adaptation of Tracy Letts' Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama. According to the report, the film will open in limited release in New York and Los Angeles on December 27th before hitting theaters nationwide on January 10, 2014.

The decision to delay was most likely due to the highly competitive slate of films set to open on Christmas Day, including "Wolf of Wall Street," "Anchorman 2," "Walter Mitty," and "Grudge Match." With it's new December 27th date, the film will now be up against the premieres of "Labor Day" and "Lone Survivor", both of which are not considered 'blockbusters.'

The change marks the second time the studio has decided to delay the film's release. In June, BWW reported that the original October release date had been postponed until Christmas Day as a result of the Oscars being pushed back to a March 2, 2014 air date due to the upcoming Winter Olympic Games.

Starring Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulrooney, Julianne Nicholson, Sam Shepard and Misty Upham, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.

Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name made its Broadway debut in December 2007 after premiering at Chicago's legendary Steppenwolf Theatre earlier that year. It continued with a successful international run and was the winner of five Tony Awards in 2008, including Best Play. AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is directed byJohn Wells (THE COMPANY MEN) and features an all-star cast, including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney,Sam Shepard and Misty Upham.
