ANNIE Movie Remake Round-Up! Adewale, Foxx & Wallis On Location In NYC; New Photos
The stars of the new contemporary re-working of classic comic strip-inspired musical ANNIE have been spotted in NYC all this month filming scenes for the new movie musical adaptation of the popular piece, including shots of Jamie Foxx, Quvenzhane Wallis and our very first look at Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje in character, as well.
Social media images of Foxx, Wallis and Adewale have cropped up this week depicting a number of new scenes being captured for the highly anticipated release, set to hit screens next December, including Annie walking Sandy, her dog, and visiting a food stand.
Also, Adewale took to Twitter earlier this week to write, "AAA Having fun on the set of
#ANNIE...Isn't she lovely?" while posting a shot of himself astride the spunky young star on location filming a scene with her approaching a chauffeured car.

Plus, check out this month's BroadwayWorld article all about the ongoing filming of ANNIE in NYC available here, as well as a first look at the logo and orphans, available here, and first look at Rose Byrne on set, here.
ANNIE is directed by Will Gluck from a script by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna, starring Quvenzhane Wallis as Annie, Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stacks (aka Daddy Warbucks), Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan along with Rose Byrne as Grace Farrell and Bobby Cannavale in a new role.
The starry roster of producers for the film include Will Smith and Jay Z, who also serves as music supervisor. Jay Z famously had a Top Ten hit with a rap version of the show's famous orphan theme "It's A Hard Knock Life" called "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)".
ANNIE is reportedly a modern-day adaptation of the stage musical, set in contemporary New York City.
Historically, the property was previously first filmed by famed director John Huston in 1982, starring Aileen Quinn as Annie and Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks, as well as lensed by CHICAGO helmer Rob Marshall in 1999, starring Alicia Morton and Victor Garber.
The original stage musical of ANNIE was based on Harold Gray's 1924 comic strip LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE and was directed by Martin Charnin, featuring music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan. Subsequently, the musical has been revived on Broadway twice, with the most recent revival playing at the Palace Theatre, directed by James Lapine and starring Lilla Crawford in the title role.
The big screen remake of ANNIE is set to be released in December 2014.
