‘Viva la Vida' is a unique project of Tango, Folklore, Jazz & Movie, produced by the Dutch group ‘Quinteto Tango Extremo', featuring three guest soloists. The six strong formation realizes a very exciting melting pot of Tango, Foklore (to name some styles: Candombe, Chacarera, Milonga and Milongon) combined with Jazz and improvisation.
In practically every song, there is space for improvisation: a typical jazz characteristic which is indissolubly attached to Quinteto Tango Extremo.
During the concert, nostalgic and unique images of amongst others celebrating crowds during the carnival of Buenos Aires, at the beginning of the last century will be shown. These images will be projected behind the group.
Since her creation in 2003 the Quinteto Tango Extremo has gone through a development that you could at least call ‘remarkable'. The ensemble has played in practically all bigger and smaller venues in The Netherlands, but is also touring non-stop over the rest of the world: Spain, France, Mexico, UK, Belgium, Turkey, Kurdistan, Croatia, South Korea, Argentina, Uruguay, Russia, China and many more.
CILNA MARAIS iKAPA Showcase
Starring CILNA MARAIS and dancers of the iKAPA Dance Theatre
ONE SHOW ONLY - TUESDAY 09th NOVEMBER 2010
Tickets R60 per person
Cilna Marais has been with iKapa Dance Theatre since the beginning of 2009 when she joined the company as an intern. Now, after almost two years of fulfilling her role as 'dancer' at iKapa, Cilna has been given the opportunity to showcase herself, not only as a performer, but also as a choreographer and teacher.
In her work entitled TUNING IN an old-fashioned pair of earphones is used. This single prop allows the exploration of the sense of hearing on both a literal and figurative level. Our world is filled with sounds such as people's voices, music and others produced by nature and technology. Even in the 'silent' moments our thoughts are coloured by the sounds and voices we hear, be it our own or that of other people. There are many ways in which people identify their 'inner voice'. For some it is the voice of God, for others it is the conscience. In the end, no matter what we hear, whether reality or notion, or how we identify it, we have to decide whether we are going to listen or not. This decision impacts on the well-being of our relationships - both with the self and with others.
All shows begins at 20h30. For theatre bookings and dinner reservations please call 021 424 1194/5 or visit our website www.onbroadway.co.za or book at any branch of Computicket
