Fans are starting a petition to get 'Box Five,' a cut song from The Phantom of the Opera originally performed by the opera managers in early workshops of the musical, to be added to the stage production in new TikTok videos.

The Casting Society announced nominations across theater, television, commercials and short film for the 42nd Artios Awards, honoring casting professionals globally.

On Saturday, September 26th, I had the pleasure of seeing another first-rate musical phenomenally performed at Center Stage Theatre in Shelton, CT, THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, which is based on an unfinished novel by Charles Dickens. This unfinished novel was made into a play in 1985 with book, music, and lyrics written by Rupert Holmes. Director Tom Simonetti combines his talents with music director Chrissy Dominguez and choreographer Matt Mancuso to help bring out the best in this first-rate cast that includes Tom Simonetti as Chairman William Cartwright, Dr. Shaun Rimkunas as John Jasper, Emma Kelly as Edwin Drood, Emily Pollack as Rosa Bud, Priscilla Squiers as Princess Puffer, JR Resto as Neville Landless, Liz Joblin as Helena Landless, Bob Hyland as Reverend Crisparkle, Katie Ciurleo as Bazzard, Michael Primorac as Durdles, Luca Moretti as Deputy, Melissa Blanco as Jemma Throttle, Jeanie D Tuzzio as Violet Balfour, Nicole Finlay as Miss Gwendolen Pynn, and Sydney Kishimoto as Isabelle and Wendy. This stellar cast has incredible stage chemistry with each other, each member individually having a strong stage presence and radiating positivity, truly enjoying the performance, as the audience does!

On Sunday, August 9, LES MISÉRABLES: THE ARENA CONCERT SPECTACULAR closed out its two-year global tour in epic fashion at Radio City Music Hall. Produced by Cameron Mackintosh, Nick Grace Management, and presented locally by The Bowery Presents, the 22-performance engagement sold 117,000 tickets, drawing audiences from all 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico and across 58 different countries. The engagement capped off a global tour that welcomed over 1.3 million fans to the barricade across 34 cities internationally.

Titanic… An Immersive Experience. The Exhibit has opened at Union Station for a multi-month run through April of 2026.   The key word is “Immersive.”  “Immersion” means that audience members are meant to feel like they are part of the experience.  The Titanic Immersion Voyage is the next logical step towards achieving what it must have been like to have been aboard the RMS Titanic on that cold April night in back 1912, 400 miles east of Newfoundland when she struck an iceberg, foundered, and lost 1500 of her passengers and crew to the icy north Atlantic while on her maiden voyage to New York.

While different tryout theaters have different relationships to the development of new shows, it’s worth looking at both which commercial rental theaters and which non-profit theaters have had the most Best Musical Tony Award winners come from their stages.

John Bolton, a Tony Award nominee for A CHRISTMAS STORY, has joined the cast of ROMERO & JULIET in Concert as Uncle Larry (aka Friar Lawrence.)

Chad Marge and Delilah Jane Dunn will star as Romero and Juliet, alongside Tony nominee Steven Skybell as Uncle Larry (Friar Lawrence) in a concert presentation of the new zombie rock musical ROMERO & JULIET in Concert at the Cutting Room NYC.

Charles Kirsch is the 17-year-old host of the theater podcast Backstage Babble, where he has conducted over 250 in-depth interviews with some of Broadway’s best. In “Stage Direction,” he will be using material from the podcast and additional interviews to chronicle the career and impact of some of the most influential theater directors. 

Renowned pianist Philip Fortenberry and singer Elisa Fiorillo will star in The Classics with Class at Myron’s at The Smith Center on Aug. 20.
