Review: HADESTOWN - TEEN EDITION at DreamWrights
by Sandra Harberger - Jun 13, 2026

Our narrator, the greek god Hermes, was portrayed by Moses Banks. She showcased her powerful vocals and brought some sass into the character of Hermes. Ray Baer portrayed the soft and sensitive side of Orpheus as he tried to save Eurydice from the underworld. Joy Ellis portrayed Eurydice with spunk, and her solos were beautiful, especially “Flowers.” Ash Aquayo played Persephone, Queen of the Underworld, as angsty and wild while Adam Coe played Hades as stoic and pragmatic. The sharp contrast in characters was symbolic of spring and winter.

Review: THE LION KING at the Aronoff Center

This grand and heartwarming spectacle is not only a fantastic stage musical appealing to all ages, but it also provides reminders about the dangers of tyranny and dictatorship, as well as the need for creativity and diversity in theatre.

Review: LA JOLLA MUSIC SOCIETY BRINGS Jihye Lee's BIG BAND TO The JAI at The Conrad
by Ron Bierman - Jun 13, 2026

Jihye Lee’s 13-piece big band opened its second of two sets at The JAI in La Jolla with an original she called “Why Is That.” She explained the title in a 2024 Jazz Times interview. “I started out writing a simple blues tune, but it didn’t go well. … Why Is That? Why can’t I do that?” Since she’s asked, I’ll take a stab at answering. Lee was raised in Korea and graduated from a Korean University with a major in voice performance. After graduation, she sang locally as an Indie-K-pop singer. She had little or no experience with the blues or jazz before moving to the U.S. to attend the Berklee School of music in Boston where she began training as a jazz arranger/composer because registrations were closed for the classical, sound track and pop equivalents she’d planned to choose from.

Review: HURRICANE DIANE at Big Idea Theatre
by Courtney Symes - Jun 13, 2026

Big Idea Theatre is a lot like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates, in the best way. You never know what you’re going to get. The intention that goes into each season ensures the audience is always enjoying a variety of unique and entertaining experiences. Director Leah Daugherty is kicking off summer and growing weather with Madeleine George’s Hurricane Diane, a darkly comedic nod to environmentalism and sustainability.
