Something Rotten! is a completely original new musical directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw, known for his work on The Book of Mormon and Disney's Aladdin that is opening the Broadway in Detroit season on September 25th at the Fisher Theatre. The hilarious new musical comedy tells the story of brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, stuck in the shadow of Renaissance rockstar, Will Shakespeare. When the next big thing in theatre involves singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, the Bottom brothers set out to write the world's very first musical! BroadwayWorld Detroit had a chance to speak with Michigan-born Julian Burzynski Jr., an ensemble member in the show, who is loving every moment of being part of the show before it opens here on September 25th in Detroit. On the first Monday of most months between October 2018 and May 2019, the series will present audiences with an opportunity to gather and hear in-progress works from writers leading the literary avant-garde. The Verdi Chorus 35th anniversary season culminates with its Fall 2018 concert Passione! Opera! for two performances only at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Monica on November 10 and 11 led by Founding Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum.   As the only choral group in Southern California that focuses primarily on the dramatic and diverse music for opera chorus, this program, which marks the end of a landmark year for the company, will feature selections from three Verdi operas - Aida, Don Carlo, and the famed chorus "Va, pensiero," from Nabucco, as well as operatic sequences from Boito's Mefistofele, Saint-Saens' Samson and Delilah, Catalani's La Wally and Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann. Opening on Friday, October 12 at 8:00 p.m. in the Studio Theatre at the Hilberry. "Xtigone" is a poignant and timely story about a woman mourning the death of her two brothers, mowed down by a rival gang. Using hip hop poetry, dance, and dialogue that speaks with an urban voice, this re-imagining of Sophocles' "Antigone" tells the story of a woman's quest for her community's truth. (more...)

A&E Network Orders 150 Additional Episodes of LIVE PD

A&E Network has ordered 150 more episodes of the hit original series, 'Live PD,' which documents policing in America in real time, from Big Fish Entertainment, an MGM Company. Totaling 450 hours, the deal extends the series' run into 2019, with the new order bringing the number of commissioned episodes to 293 to date. 'Live PD' returns for a third season tonight at 9pm ET/PT. The announcement was made today by Elaine Frontain Bryant, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming for A&E. EZI Releases New Single NEED YOU LIKE THAT Released Today, Touring with Max This Fall!

EZI is excited to release her beguiling new single, 'Need You Like That' via 5 Town Records. It is the first taste of an upcoming EP, largely inspired by her experience growing up as a young women in America who's family immigrated from USSR. While writing, EZI was drawn to her father's story, a classical violinist who arrived in the US in 1981 with just $200 and his violin. Of the track she notes, 'This song is about temptation, but keeping the lyrics ambiguous was very much an intentional choice. I made it on a whim at 1am in a basement room in New York and really stepped away from myself when making it. I eventually asked my dad to come join me in the studio and play violin on the track, which made the whole experience very special.'   (more...)
