2019 marks the 101st season for veteran NJ community theatre Summit Playhouse. Perhaps it is fitting, then, that the first play on the bill to kick off their next century also comes with a legendary past. For, as the title A Doll's House: Part 2 suggests, there is a rich past leading up to the ideas and characters being explored on Summit's stage this November. Lucas Hnath's recent play is about Nora, that famed feminist initially introduced to us by Ibsen, and what happened to her and the Helmer family after she strode out the door back in 1879.

Cameron Mackintosh and Disney Theatrical Productions' production of Mary Poppins has now returned to its original West End home at the Prince Edward Theatre, marking the first time this new production has been seen in London.

Different Stages opens its 2019 - 2020 season with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein adapted by Patrick Sandford. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant and ambitious young student, discovers the secret of creating life from the remains of the dead. Since his 'mesmerizing drama' (The New York Times) The Christians made its New York premiere at Playwrights Horizons in 2015, Hnath has received acclaim for two major Broadway productions (A Doll's House, Part 2 and Hillary and Clinton).

Today, the Evening Standard announces the 2019 shortlist for the 65th Evening Standard Theatre Awards in association with Michael Kors. Across nine award categories, the shortlist features the biggest names and emerging talents from the London stage over the last twelve months. Among the contenders are some strong commercial hits that have transferred or are about to move onto the West End or Broadway a?' including Betrayal, Death of a Salesman, Fiddler on the Roof, The Son and Sweat.

What a year for theatre 2019 has been! Remembering all of the amazing shows as part of the build-up to the BroadwayWorld UK Awards has been a complete joy, and it is my pleasure to present some thoughts about the shows that have left a distinct impression on my stagey mind.

In the burgeoning friendship between two womena?"one who's recently experienced a strange loss, and another who communicates with the deada?"Hnath crafts an unnerving testament to the power of the mind, and one mind's power to influence others. The Thin Place makes its New York premiere at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Playwrights Horizons (416 W 42nd St), running November 22, 2019, through January 5, 2020.

The Old Globe today announced its latest cast and creative team as the illustrious actors in The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program expertly perform William Shakespeare's magical comedy Twelfth Night, directed by Jesse Perez, the program's Director of Professional Training and a noted actor (Off Broadway's Party People, the Globe's Romeo and Juliet, La Jolla Playhouse's Seize the King). The classical actors of tomorrow will bring to life a world filled with some of the Bard's most unforgettable characters and memorable moments. Twelfth Night will run November 2a?"10, 2019 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center.  Actors' Equity Association has presented the company members of Head over Heels with the 12th Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway Award for the 2018-2019 season. 

The Public Theatre begins it's 2019-20 Season with the laugh out loud comedy WOMEN IN JEOPARDY playing October 18 - 27.  Imagine Sex and the City meets I love Lucy when middle-aged moms start dating! Longtime friends Liz, Mary and Jo do everything together, until Liz starts dating a creepy guy who may or may not be a serial killer. It's up to her gal pals to bring her to her senses as they trade in their wine glasses for spy glasses and leap to her rescue. Grab your gal pals for this laugh out loud comedy about how ridiculously far we'll go to help our friends.

Geva Theatre Center presents The Niceties, by Eleanor Burgess and directed by Nicole A. Watson, in the Elaine P. Wilson Stage from October 22 through November 17.

A new adaptation of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's The Yellow Wallpaper opened this weekend at IRT theater in Greenwich Village. The multimedia staging will run until Oct 13th.
