As we say goodbye to this year, we're flashing back to the opening nights of the shows of 2019. Take a look back at the casts taking their opening bows!

From Shakespeare to Shepard, Tennessee Williams to Arthur Miller, Broadway was brought to life this year with not only revivals of today's classics, but with new plays that will surely be tomorrow's classics. A whopping 20 plays opened in 2019. Before we get wrapped up in the theatre season ahead, BroadwayWorld wants to stop and salute the shows that made this year great. Mint Theater Company Producing Artistic Director Jonathan Bank today announced that Katie Firth (A Day by the Sea, A Picture of Autumn, Susan and God, Far and Wide - Mint Theater, Museum - Keen Company), Anna Lentz (The Diary of Anne Frank - Geva Theatre Center, The Many Deaths of Nathan Stubblefield, The Tens, A Christmas Carol, Gratuitous Nudity and the Undisclosed Costs of Questioning Surveillance Rather Than Bad Broccoli - Actors Theatre of Louisville),

Grand Park's Winter Glow returns for the park's second annual nighttime art display, offering an immersive experience that will span two county locations this holiday season as the free event expands across Grand Avenue to include the newly renovated Music Center Plaza. With double the amount of lighting experiences from the inaugural event in 2018, Grand Park's Winter Glow will feature installations by L.A.-based artists from across the county, including multimedia artists Cassandra Carillo, Carlos G. Rodas and Aphidoidea, among others.

Just months ago, following a critically acclaimed run at London's Harold Pinter Theatre, the four-person cast of Betrayal all made their Broadway debuts. One of the four was Eddie Arnold. 

The National Theatre has announced its upcoming lineup for December 2019 - June 2020.

Pittsburgh CLO is announced casting for the 28th annual production of A MUSICAL CHRISTMAS CAROL, December 6-22 at the Byham Theater. This year's production will feature lavish costumes, thrilling effects and a talented ensemble of both new and returning performers. Broadway star Mark Jacoby returns to Pittsburgh CLO to lead the cast as Ebenezer Scrooge. Theaterlab (Orietta Crispino, Artistic Director) presents Conway, written and directed by Rory McGregor, at its Midtown home (357 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor) November 14 through 24, 2019.

Glimmerglass Film Days will offer five days of independent films, events, art, and filmmaker talks, November 7-11 in Cooperstown. 'Adaptations' is the theme of the seventh annual film festival, which will be held in multiple locations, including the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Fenimore Art Museum, and the Otesaga Hotel. A record number of 37 films will be shown.

Tony Awards Administration Committee met today for the first time this season and confirmed the eligibility status of six Broadway productions for the 2020 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards®. The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2019-2020 season to decide the eligibility for the 74th Annual Tony Awards.

Living in one of the most expensive cities in the United States as a stereotypically broke college student sounds like a financial disaster on paper. The top growing current Broadway plays were Slave Play (8.75%), Darren Brown: Secret (7.80%), Betrayal (6.07%), Sea Wall / A Life (1.12%) and To Kill A Mockingbird (0.61%).

The top growing current Broadway musicals were Beetlejuice (4.45%), Hadestown (1.33%), Ain't Too Proud (1.12%), Moulin Rouge (1.05%) and Mean Girls (0.65%). The top growing current Broadway plays were Sea Wall / A Life (3.83%), To Kill A Mockingbird (0.20%), Cursed Child (0.13%).

Steep Theatre begins its 19th season and opens its first production as an Equity theatre in October with the U.S. premiere of Olivier Award-winner Lucy Kirkwood's Mosquitoes, directed by Jaclynn Jutting. Kirkwood won the 2014 Olivier Award for Best New Play for her Chimerica, and her play The Children enjoyed a well-received run at Steppenwolf this past spring. This production will mark Steep's first venture with the playwright, as well as with director Jutting, a long-time friend of the company.
