Two and a half years ago, Aaron Lazar, star of such beloved Broadway shows as Les Miserables, The Last Ship, The Light in the Piazza, and many more, was diagnosed with ALS. When he went public with the news in January, Lazar was met with resounding support from the Broadway community that has become a second family. Now that family has shown up to make a dream come true. Watch in this video.

Produced alongside Project ALS, the video is a beautiful tribute to late Broadway star Rebecca Luker, who passed away from ALS. The video features never-before-seen footage of the Tony-nominated actress as well as videos of other women diagnosed with the disease.

In 1998, when Luker was leading the first Broadway revival of The Sound of Music, Broadway producer Jamie deRoy visited her and the rest of the cast backstage with filmmaker Rick McKay.

Today we rewind to 1999, when Laura Benanti took over the role of Maria from Rebecca Luker in The Sound of Music. Benanti, who made her Broadway debut the previous year as Luker's understudy, was 19 years old. The revival ran for over a year at the Martin Beck Theatre (now the Al Hirschfeld Theatre), where it opened in March 1998.

3-D Theatricals celebrates its 10th Anniversary season with a lavish new production of the Tony Award®-winning musical, The Secret Garden, directed by 3-D Theatricals' producer and artistic director T.J. The Actors Fund, the national human services organization that helps everyone in performing arts and entertainment in times of need, crisis or transition, just held its Annual Gala on Monday night, May 8, 2017. The evening celebrated Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Danny DeVito, two-time Academy Award winner Sally Field, outstanding corporate leader Jo Ann Jenkins, CEO of AARP and 21-time Tony Award-winning theatrical director and producer Harold Prince. Mr. DeVito, Ms. Field and Ms. Jenkins were awarded The Actors Fund's Medal of Honor. Mr. Prince received The Actors Fund's Lifetime Achievement Award.

On this day in 1999, Richard Chamberlain and Laura Benanti joined the cast of the Broadway revival of The Sound of Music as the new Captain Von Trapp and Maria Rainer, succeeding Michael Siberry and Rebecca Luker in the roles. The two continued in the roles through the production's closing on June 20. 1999, after 533 performances.
