Photos: First look at Rise Up Youth Theatre's THE SOMEWHAT TRUE TALE OF ROBIN HOOD
by Jerri Shafer - Jun 9, 2022

It sure is hard to be humble when you're a swashbuckling, egocentric super-hero. But our gallant guy-in-green tries his best as he swaggers through The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood, a frantically funny, Monty Pythonesque retelling of the classic. This time around, the legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy, encounters a lovely damsel-in-distress (oddly obsessed with skin conditions); an ever-scheming sheriff who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bull's-eye; a gold-hoarding, bad-guy monarch wannabe; and a good-natured 'Town's Guy' who manages to make his way into every scene, whether he belongs there or not. Combine them with an expandable band of spoon-wielding Merry Men whose collective IQs equal six, and you've got an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest you won't soon forget! Performances run June 10 thru the 12th, 2022 at The Davis Auditorium, Lancaster Camp Ground, 2151 West Fair Ave., Lancaster, OH 43130. For more information visit: https://www.riseupartsalliance.org

by Jerri Shafer - May 20, 2022

“The Uncanny” is a first for Stage Right Theatrics in that it features both film and stage elements. The play is directed by Ohio resident Matt Hermiz, who had this to say about adapting part of the play for film: “The primary male character is a Hollywood film producer versed in particular in horror films and the cinematic history thereof. It seems like a logical extension of the play’s themes to tell part of the overall story with the cinematic medium.” Performances are May 20-21 and 27 at 7:30 PM, May 22 at 1:30 PM, and May 25-26 at 7 PM at the Abbey Theatre of Dublin (5600 Post Rd, Dublin, OH 43017). Photos: First look at Gallery Players' PLAZA SUITE
by Jerri Shafer - May 14, 2022

Hilarity abounds in this portrait of three couples successively occupying a suite at the Plaza. A suburban couple take the suite while their house is being painted and it turns out to be the one in which they honeymooned 23 (or was it 24?) years before and was yesterday the anniversary, or is it today? This wry tale of marriage in tatters is followed by the exploits of a Hollywood producer who, after three marriages, is looking for fresh fields. He calls a childhood sweetheart, now a suburban housewife, for a little sexual diversion. Over the years she has idolized him from afar and is now more than the match he bargained for. The last couple is a mother and father fighting about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom where guests await her or as Mother yells, “I want you to come out of that bathroom and get married!” Performances run May 14 thru May 21, 2022. Gallery Players, 1125 College Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43209. Please visit https://galleryplayers.eventive.org/schedule to get specific showtimes and purchase tickets.
