Betty Gilpin began her acting career with guest roles on television series including Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Fringe, Medium, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Elementary. From 2013 to 2015, she starred as Dr. Carrie Roman on the Showtime series Nurse Jackie. Her stage work includes off-Broadway productions of Heartless, I’m Gonna Pray for You So Hard and We Live Here. Her early film credits include Ghost Town (2008), Take Care (2014), True Story (2015) and Future ’38 (2017).
Gilpin’s breakout role came as Debbie “Liberty Belle” Eagan on the Netflix series GLOW, which aired from 2017 to 2019. Between 2019 and 2020, she appeared in the films Isn’t It Romantic (2019), A Dog’s Journey (2019), Stuber (2019) and The Hunt (2020). She appeared in The Tomorrow War in 2021.
In 2022, Gilpin starred as Mo Dean in the Starz limited series Gaslit and appeared in the Apple TV+ anthology series Roar. In 2023, she starred as Sister Simone/Elizabeth Abbott in the Peacock series Mrs. Davis and voiced Irene in the Netflix animated series Skull Island. In 2025, she starred in the Netflix series American Primeval and Death by Lightning, and made her Broadway debut in Oh, Mary! as Mary Todd Lincoln.
