BIO
Robert Sheehan began acting in school productions and made his screen debut at age 14 in Song for a Raggy Boy, filming in Cork. He later performed with the Laois Open Door theatre group in The Cripple of Inishmaan. At 16, he appeared in the Australian television series Foreign Exchange, followed by roles in The Clinic, The Tudors, Young Blades (as Louis XIV), Rock Rivals (2008), Bitter Sweet (2008), and the film Ghostwood.
After leaving the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, Sheehan starred in Cherrybomb (2009). That same year, he appeared in Channel 4’s Red Riding trilogy and began playing Nathan Young in the first two series of Misfits (2009–2010). He did not return for the third season. He received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Misfits in 2011.
Beginning in 2010, Sheehan played Darren in the Irish crime drama Love/Hate, appearing for three seasons and earning Irish Film and Television Award nominations in 2011 and 2013. He appeared in the film Season of the Witch (2011) and starred in Killing Bono (2011). He also performed on stage in The Playboy of the Western World at the Old Vic and appeared in the BBC drama Accused (2012).
Sheehan played Simon Lewis in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013). From 2014 to 2015, he appeared in films including Anita B., The Road Within, Moonwalkers, and The Messenger. In 2015, he portrayed Richard III in Trevor Nunn’s stage adaptation The Wars of the Roses.
In 2017, The Song of Sway Lake premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and he appeared in Geostorm and the second season of Fortitude. In 2018, he appeared in Genius: Picasso, Bad Samaritan, Mute, Mortal Engines, and The Young Offenders Christmas special.
In 2019, Sheehan began starring as Klaus Hargreeves in the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy. He published his debut book, Disappearing Act: A Host of Other Characters in 16 Short Stories, in 2021. In 2022, he was cast as Draygan in the film Red Sonja. In 2024, he is scheduled to star in the stage production Withnail and I at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and appear in Reunion at the Galway International Arts Festival.
