Robert Lindsay

Robert Lindsay began his screen career with roles in the films That'll Be the Day (1973), Three for All (1975), and Adventures of a Taxi Driver (1976). He rose to prominence as Jakey Smith in the ITV sitcom Get Some In! (1975–1977) and starred as Wolfie Smith in the BBC sitcom Citizen Smith (1977–1980).

Throughout the 1980s, Lindsay appeared in the BBC Television Shakespeare productions Twelfth Night (1980), A Midsummer Night's Dream (1981), and Much Ado About Nothing (1984), as well as Granada Television's King Lear (1983). On stage, he starred as Bill Snibson in the 1984 London revival of Me and My Girl, a performance that earned him both the Olivier Award and, following the production's Broadway transfer, the Tony Award. He also starred in the films Bert Rigby, You're a Fool (1989) and Strike It Rich (1990).

Lindsay starred in Alan Bleasdale's television drama G.B.H. (1991), winning the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor. He reunited with Bleasdale for Jake's Progress (1995) and appeared in the Channel 4 sitcom Nightingales (1990–1993). He starred opposite Derek Jacobi in Becket (1996), earning an Olivier Award nomination, and won a second Olivier Award for playing Fagin in the 1997 London revival of Oliver! He also appeared in the films Fierce Creatures (1997) and Divorcing Jack (1998), played Captain Pellew in the ITV series Hornblower (1998–2003), and portrayed Fagin in the ITV miniseries Oliver Twist (1999).

From 2000 to 2011, Lindsay starred as Ben Harper in the BBC sitcom My Family. His other television credits include Jericho (2005), Friends and Crocodiles (2005), Gideon's Daughter (2006), A Very Social Secretary, The Trial of Tony Blair, Absolutely Fabulous (2003), Seven Wonders of the Industrial World (2003) as narrator, Extras (2006), Wimbledon (2004), and the Radio 4 comedy Electric Ink (2009). On stage, he starred in The Entertainer (2007) at the Old Vic and Onassis (2010), later reprising the role in the film Grace of Monaco (2014).

Lindsay starred in The Lion in Winter (2011) at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and appeared in the sitcom Spy (2011). His later credits include Falcón (2012), the UK premiere of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (2014), Galavant (2016), Genius (2017), the play Prism (2017), Disney's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019), McDonald & Dodds (2020), and the revival of Anything Goes (2021), for which he received his fourth Olivier Award nomination in 2022.
