BWW Review: SALTONSTALL'S TRIAL: THE SALEM WITCH TRIAL'S UNTOLD STORY at Larcom Theatre in Beverly
by Nancy Grossman - Oct 25, 2019

With the term a?oewitch hunta?? being bandied about ad nauseam in our national discourse, it seems an ideal moment to look back upon the actual witch hunt that occurred in Essex County, Massachusetts, at the end of the 17th century. SALTONSTALL'S TRIAL: THE SALEM WITH TRIAL'S UNTOLD STORY, a new play by Michael Cormier and Myriam Cyr at the Larcom Theatre in Beverly, does just that. It is a smart, ambitious production with a commanding performance by Elliot Norton and IRNE Award-winning actor Benjamin Evett in the title role and a 20-member ensemble representing the accused women, town residents, clergy, and officers of the Court.

When a nouveau riche couple's longing for the perfect house leads them to install an ornamental hermitage, they realize their fantasy won't be complete without a final finishing touch: a real life hermit.

BWW Review: Sondheim's ROAD SHOW: Looking For America
by Nancy Grossman - Jan 24, 2018

The Lyric Stage Company continues to meander through the works of Stephen Sondheim with ROAD SHOW, his most recent collaboration with librettist John Weidman. While not in the upper echelon of Sondheim's works, the score and the Lyric production make it worthwhile. This musical travelogue about the Mizner Brothers, a pair of entrepreneurs and con men who sought their fortunes in escapades from Alaska to New York to Florida in the early 20th century, is the story of their successes, failures, and the art of the deal, fitting right in with our American zeitgeist.
