The Ridgefield Playhouse’s Classical Series continues on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 6pm with a Met Opera Encore in HD screening of Verdi’s Falstaff. A deeply human comedy full of humor and genuine emotion, Verdi’s last opera is a splendid finale to an unparalleled career in the theater.

Combine a supreme farceur with a stentorian voice that thrills and you get baritone Michael Volle’s portrayal of the title role in Verdi’s FALSTAFF, which breezed into town late last week for a limited run at the Met. While we’ve had dramatic singers in the role before, they were mostly from Italian repertoire; I don’t know when the last time a Wagnerian--a Wotan from the Ring, for instance--took on this role around here, but Volle did himself proud.

The Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans will be presenting Night of the Iguana by Tennessee Williams this March at The Lower Depths Theatre at Loyola University New Orleans. This play was Williams' last commercial success on Broadway, and TWTC will be presenting a fresh and inventive take that remains true to the play's essence.

World-renowned resident orchestras-the New York Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra-join for 17 programs led by Music Directors Jaap van Zweden, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Fabio Luisi, in addition to guest conductors Marin Alsop, Giancarlo Guerrero, Hannu Lintu, Stéphane Denève, Jeff Tyzik, and Justin Freer.
