Halper appeared as Romeo in the University of North Carolina School of the Arts' production of Romeo and Juliet in 2014. After graduating, he made his screen debut in the ABC television film The Kingmakers and appeared in the film Goat (2016). He also portrayed Mischa Bachinski in the Off-Broadway production of Ride the Cyclone (2016).
In 2017, Halper portrayed Erik Menendez in the NBC miniseries Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders. From 2017 to 2018, he had a recurring role as Mikey Scaramucci in Happy! He later appeared in Ramy (2019), Jett (2019), Dickinson (2019), Love Life (2020), Holler (2020), Evil (2021), Fear the Walking Dead (2021), Law & Order: Organized Crime (2022), and portrayed Tom Kahn in the biographical film Rustin (2023).
Halper joined the workshop of the musical Sing Street in 2019 and reprised the role of Brendan Lalor for the show's Off-Broadway premiere at New York Theatre Workshop later that year. He also appeared on the Sing Street cast recording, released in 2020.
