Moscow Production of CHESS Hits 150,000 Audience Members Since Premiere


A legendary musical about confrontation between a Soviet and an American chess masters for the world chess crown set against the backdrop of the Cold War has been seen by over 150 000 spectators in Moscow in 6 months.

BWW Review: CHESS at MDM Theatre - Back Where It Started


You all know Chess – that grand musical about the rivalry between Soviet and American chess players with a love triangle and fleeing the Soviet Union. This fall, it finally reached Russia with the help from Dmitry Bogachev and his company Broadway Moscow. It has it all – a notable director, great cast, freedom in terms of changing the plot and, unfortunately, a few drawbacks. Chess is that show that always surprises you because it's never the same in terms of structure and characters. Luckily, I got a chance to see it prior to the opening night. Here's how it was.

Broadway Dreams Completes Its Fourth Consecutive Collaboration In Russia


Broadway Dreams once again demonstrated the unifying power of the arts when the internationally renowned performing arts education program sent a team of Broadway professionals to Moscow, Russia for the fourth consecutive year. Through a landmark partnership created between the non-profit organization, Broadway Moscow Theatre Company, the U.S. Embassy, and the U.S. Department of State, Broadway Dreams offered their unique brand of Broadway master classes to professional and aspiring Russian musical theater performers of all ages during a ten-day intensive program. The collaboration culminated in two public performances at the MDM Theatre on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

STEPHEN FLAHERTY and LYNN AHRENS Will Run A Workshop At Bolshoi Theatre


Composer Stephen Flaherty and lyricist Lynn Ahrens are going to hold a meet-the-artist session at Bolshoi Theatre on the 25th of April. They will share their experience in working on a musical score and lyrics. During the session, there will be a workshop for composers where young creators can share their music and get feedback.

Constantine Germanacos and Penny Fuller Will Join the Company of ANASTASIA


Anastasia will welcome new cast members to the Broadhurst Theatre this winter. Beginning Tuesday, December 18, original company member Constantine Germanacos will rejoin the hit Broadway musical as "Gleb." Emmy Award Winner Penny Fuller will assume the role of the "Dowager Empress" the week of January 7.

CHESS To Premiere in Russia Next May!


Moscow Broadway has announced the opening of the first Russian production of the legendary musical Chess, created by Tim Rice, Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. The musical will premiere on a stage of Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre in May 2019 and will move to Moscow to be daily run in MDM Theatre in September. This is going to be the first time when a Russian state academic opera theatre will make a co-production with a Russian commercial theatre company.

The Russian premiere of the legendary musical CHESS, telling the story of a battle for world chess championship, set against the backdrop of the cold war between two superpowers - USSR and USA, is set to open in Novosibirsk May 2019 with a gala opening in Moscow in October 2019. This is a co-production between Moscow Broadway theatre company and Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (NOVAT).

Russian theatre-goers are used to attend Moscow Palace of Youth to watch new musicals mostly produced by the company Stage Entertainment and its ex-CEO Dmitry Bogachev. But that is in the past. Bogachev, now a member of The Broadway League and a CEO of Moscow Broadway, has decided to put aside musical productions in Russia for this season and to produce The Play That Goes Wrong.
