BWW Review: Lyric's A CHRISTMAS CAROL Brings Holiday Magic to Life on its Plaza Stage BWW Review: Lyric's A CHRISTMAS CAROL Brings Holiday Magic to Life on its Plaza Stage
by Robert Barossi on November 30, 2017 in Oklahoma

The holidays are an undeniable magical time for many people. Whether it's the bright, twinkling holiday lights, the music of holiday carols, the traditional foods of the season, giving and receiving gifts, or spending time with friends and loved ones, there is something special, something magical, about the holiday season. So it's fitting that in a theater is where some of the most spectacular and entertaining holiday magic can and will be found. BWW Review: Pollard Theatre Brings A TERRITORIAL CHRISTMAS CAROL Back for 30th Year BWW Review: Pollard Theatre Brings A TERRITORIAL CHRISTMAS CAROL Back for 30th Year
by Robert Barossi on November 26, 2017 in Oklahoma

Anywhere you live in the country, there is at least one theater doing it during the holidays at least one theater that has a production known for being the region's big, must-see holiday event. In Guthrie, A Territorial Christmas Carol has been an annual family traditions for thirty years. As with many versions of the story, this one adapts it for a different time period, taking it out of Dickensian England and placing it at another moment in history. In keeping with Guthrie's proud history, that moment is the time when Oklahoma was at its youngest, not long after the land run of 1889, when Guthrie was the capital of the new territory, years before it would become a state. OKC Broadway Brings 20th Anniversary Tour of RENT to the Civic Center OKC Broadway Brings 20th Anniversary Tour of RENT to the Civic Center
by Robert Barossi on November 08, 2017 in Oklahoma

Major Broadway musicals are bound to have many different incarnations over time, from early workshops to original runs to revivals and regional productions. Shows that stand the test of time, the way that Rent does, appear on the stage in touring productions, long, open-ended runs, and international productions all over the world. The current tour that's travelling the country, heralded as the 20th Anniversary Tour and currently running at the Civic Center in Oklahoma City, is a mostly disappointing production that doesn't really do the show as a whole the justice it deserves. by Robert Barossi on October 21, 2017 in Oklahoma

Some shows can challenge a review when it comes to whether or not to recommend a particular production. There can sometimes be long internal debates about whether or not to advise audiences to spend their hard earned money buying those tickets. That is not the case with the Pollard Theatre Company's current production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. No waffling or wavering here. The best advice about this particular production can be summed up in three words: See. This. Show. (more...)
