Like many other theatre companies trying to stay afloat in these financial times, The Paper Mill Playhouse has had to navigate financial turmoil over the past year. Fiscal and operational changes were undertaken, and the township purchased the Paper Mill Playhouse in the hopes of avoiding closing its doors. The Paper Mill's annual audit, which was presented on December 15, confirmed that the recent changes were indeed a step in the right direction - no deficit is expected for the next year.

Timothy Gordon, the township's business administrator says that operational changes were needed, "They went to five shows instead of six, they went to four weeks instead of five," he said. "The main thrust of that was that they were trying to curtail expenses."
